All you SWB guys are killing me...............

I purchased this truck a few months ago for parts. I have a friend that wants to do some trading on a school bus I want the frame for a hauler project. But, I am having second thoughts because I keep seeing all these SWB trucks on here. Here is the old turd. I doubt I'll build it, but here are pics of another tree find any how.

The truck has no real options, isn't really rusty, but needs the usual. If I could find a decent SWB around here, I'd probably do it. But they are pricey around here and few and far in between.

Looks like a decent workhorse, yet.Could become quite a beautiful truck with some TLC.Some people become overly fixated on just one aspect of these trucks...length of bed,how low, huge wheels, fast, slick paint,or whatever. There's plenty out there and I like 'em all.Just likin' them left as they are more and more with so many being altered to suit a current trend. We look back at trends and laugh or call them "dated".Classic is forever.

Amazing how no one wanted a shortbed til the extended cabs came out, just so the wheelbase wouldnt be so long. And now they want shortbeds with reg cabs on the 67-72's. It wont last. Ten years from now, the longbeds will be the valuable ones. Ive even got the real long wheelbase on my new truck('08 silverado ext cab longbed, lovin the extra room!).

Re: All you SWB guys are killing me...............

Every truck I've ever had has been a long bed, and I've had a lot of trucks. That's why I'm thinking a SWB would be alright. Plus, I have this vision of a Cummins 2wd street/drag truck to take to the diesel events to fill in while waiting to race my car. Like I said, I doubt I'll do anything other than sell this truck due to my project load. I'll definitely take some pics after I get it drug out and cleaned up. The truck is too nice to knock in the head. I almost scrapped it a couple weeks back because the steel prices are so high, but I didn't.

I dont mean to be hatin' on shortbeds. Ive seen some great shorties on here and theyre awesome. But, its amazing how you cant teach an old dog new tricks. Its just that Ive never owned a truck cuz it was cool. It was to get work done. And I hated a shortbed for no other reason than that they cant haul anything. AND,(hint, hint) the 3/4 longbeds really shine with a 3-6 inch lift. :-) Please dont crush it!

I have a 4x4 short bed, but I believe a truck this high should be a long bed for the proper proportions length to height.
Anyone want to trade, my short for a long?

Man....nothing like a BIG longbed with BIG tires. The rounded fenders just look cool.

It's all about ratios of LB to SB. There are a TON more longbeds out there. I wouldn't want a shortbed for my workhorse and woudn't want a longbed for my hot rod. This is why I have both!

Hmmmm.....I have found in my clinical trials that most people hate shortbeds because they don't own one. Just sayin......

Re: All you SWB guys are killing me...............

I've always had true truck guys ask (and I am one) what I want with a shortbed, they can't haul as much.I've always answered a shortbed is a true truck guy's car. That's what they are for me.I just like trucks and haven't owned a car for years. If I got a muscle car it would be an El Camino SS 396.I'll never get caught walking in mud or snow in sneakers or loafers because I wear boots.I'll never be seen trying to haul a mattress on the roof because I drive trucks.I'd rather use a truck as a car than a car as a truck.Trucks are so dang useful I can't give it up.So,I'm a longbed guy that likes shortbeds.I usually have a Blazer or Jimmy in the corral, too. The wife wanted a station wagon,so I got a Suburban. That's what's so cool about these things. You can get it all in one truck line.

Funny you say that because My wife asked me why I need two trucks. I told her I only have one truck. The other is a bad-a$$ hot rod that happens to have a bed on the back!!!

BTW....let's get real. Maybe not quite as much but you can sure get a lot of stuff in the back of a short bed!! I also realize that the suspension is the limiting factor and not the bed.

If I see a longbed I will never look at it twice just a glance and go. I can haul the same load than a longbed the sky is the limit

Not to bash on anyone but geez get over it! Who cares if its longbed or shortbed. I hear this same bs from my neighbors that think shorties are the best and longbeds are crap. Its all this trend/followers. I like both long and shortbed especially when they are classics! If your doubting this truck than its not for you. And people who make their longbeds into shortbeds make me unhappy. Why not just buy a shortbed and let someone that loves the longbed for what it is build it. Thank you good day

Re: All you SWB guys are killing me...............

Dieselwrencher,

I bought a long bed but i am converting it to a short bed. Its a whole lot cheaper and not that hard to do. If you can find a solid long bed for a good deal i would say do it and convert it if you decide you want a short bed. there are threads on here that show you how to do it

Rokcrln's thread

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...version&page=8

Also i am in the middle of it. my thread and build blog is in my signature.

Looks like a great find man, good luck.

Re: All you SWB guys are killing me...............

At Car/Truck shows I get lots of fans for the shortbox's and most of them say they would like to have one but the cost and being rare to find is why they dont either have one or the reason they have a long box. But, there are some who say they like the long boxes the best ..

Now , if owned a long box at a Car/Truck show then it would draw more of the long box lovers to it and so it may just come out pretty close on who likes what the most.. I am a short box fan but really like long box trucks that are lowered way down..
