I'm adding it to mine so that I can bump the revs when I run my engine-driven air compressor for airing up tires.

palallin, the manual throttle is used to do what you are doing, increase the rpms when needed to run a piece of equipment, such as a PTO.

Why?

To run PTO driven equipment for one.
To run engine belt driven hydraulic equipment for another

On 4x4's they were common if you used it to plow snow with. The hydraulic driven plow angle and lift is more efficient the faster the engine revs.

If you want to sell the one on your 71 because I was kind enough to explain this I'll buy it. I need one for my 72 GMC plow truck.
Yea, like I said. Plus I'm still shamelessly begging for one

Palladin was just giving another example of it's use.

Look back and page two and I see CPNE already answered, so you get two answers for the price of one - quite a bargain.

CPNE, my truck has the manual throttle, and since the choke on the 307 didn't work, I used to use the manual throttle to bring the rpm's up a bit when I was letting the truck warm up in the winter. I will keep an eye out for one for you.

Thanks. It's needs to be a 71/72 with the cable style linkage as the 67-70 hand throttle is different. I had 2 and sold both

Mine was exactly the same case. My choke didn't work right on my inline so I used the manual choke to warm it up on those -50 mornings. Works great!! I already sold the manual throttle cable out of my 72 though. I will also keep am eye out for one up here, it seems lots of the old inline powered trucks up here had it as an option

Dubie, I'd cut off the front part of my right lower fender for one.
