Don't do it!!! Don't turn your truck into an El Camino...go with bigger wheels/tires.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

These trucks need to be lowered IMO....just don't get too crazy, moderate with a little rake is a good thing.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

LOWERED SPRINGS..sorry..lowered springs and new wheels and tires. Even if you lower it with the low profile tires it won't look right. Rally wheels look good as well as the wheel vintiques like shown here in this post. For our era trucks I think Old School is only right!

my two cents anyway...
Kewl...um...what's 4/6 mean LOL (I'm pretty mechanically ignorant-save the electrical system and I haven't had the time to look at that hehe)

See that's what I mean. It feels like it's a 1/2 of a 4 X 4 cause it looks so high up hehe

P.S. hoping to move back to CA next June

Wow! Thanks for the edit, that gives me a better perspective. Judging from all the responses, it seems the only dilemna is not *whether* to lower it, but how much. I think the second one is just a *tad* too low. I'd probably like something in between. I want to definitely go with 16" wheels too, so I'm sure that would affect the amount I lower it.

Now I'm mechanically impaired (see previous post) so I'm not sure how much all that would cost to do (or possibly I could do it myself if it's not lowered too much?)....

Thanks for the encouragement on the truck btw-I got plenty of things to do to retool the interior, so that's keeping me pretty busy for now....You'd be amazed how good old vinyl looks when it's repurposed with a $5 can of vinyl spray paint

Lower it 4/6 (that's the abbreviated version of 4" front drop; 6" rear drop).
Get some cheap 6-lug ralleys, add some 255/60 (F) & 275/60 (R) tires & enjoy the heck out of it.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

When I see lowered trucks I think rice. 67-72 look ok with a moderate drop. When I see anything newer than 72 that is lowered I want to gag.

But to each his own.

2/4 then. The back is usually 2" more to account for the rake that trucks have from the factory.

I agree and once you lower them then they are'nt good for anything! Thw tow pic is about 4 1/2" in front and 6-7 in the back sitting on 15" rims.

Re: to lower or not to lower...

Do a COMBO!!
DROP IT and Toss on some WHEELS

I would use/used a 2 1/2 drop spindle not springs (to matain the ride) for the front, and a 4 inch coil drop for the back.

ADD some nice wheels to complete the process, to fill in the gaps

Like some Cragar 17x8 rims on some BFG 275/60/17

Good Luck!
