I am looking to buy this 67 steering wheel for my 67 GMC, but it has a bit more cracks than I am used to. So I am wondering if anyone on here has ever had a steering wheel actually break due to cracks? I know that the cracks can be cosmetically fixed with J B Weld and other such epoxies, but are these cracks dangerous to the structural integrity of the steering wheel?
The seller wants $40 for this, and I wonder if it is worth that?

the Plastic is mearly a cover over a metal ring and spokes, it has no bearing on the structural integrity. i used the PC7 epoxy on mine and it looks good.

Structural integrity is in the metal inside, not so much in the plastic. Like Doug said.

$40 is a very affordable price for an ugly but functional wheel. I'm not sure that I would ask for any money if I had a spare "ugly" wheel, but supply and demand rules...if you have $40 dollars, your seller has a wheel to supply. Now, if it just has 5 to 10 thin cracks around the outer wheel, $40 dollars is a steal compared to new aftermoarket or NOS.

I read on here that the reproduction wheels are plastic only so a crack would be a big deal for those.

I paid $200.00 for a nice OEM wheel on here, haven't put it on yet.

Ya if you can fix the wheel and like it, do it.

Eastwood makes or used to make a kit to repair steering wheels, may be same stuff as mentioned in above posts. $40.00 is a fair price for that wheel. I've been looking for similar condition and priced wheels for my 67 and 68. Not in a hurry though

I just want to put this out there: these 67 to 68 steering wheels come onto this website for sale every so often, some in really nice shape.

Unless you are in a hurry, just want to save money, or enjoy a repair project, a better OEM wheel will come along.

Depends on if you can fix it your self. I have done 3 so far. I redid the 66 Chevelle wheel which I have in my 71 and I redid the 64 SS Impala wheel. I did a wood wheel also for the 64. It will fit the truck column also.Cracks aren't that big of a deal though.
