Quick up date, I just got back from the blasters and it looks great. Now I can start putting it together for good and not be concerned about rust. Here are a few pics.

I was kinda surprised you left the rocker boxes in place, since they are not needed with the hard top. I'm not sure if it helps or hurts for future rust spots.

I thought about pulling them but the more I looked at I saw they tie into the B post bottom and that ties into the bed sides. I would rather have it be more rigid then not plus with the inside now being cleaned coated I think the rust issue in a thing of the past.

It is so nice have it all clean! I had a chance to day to get a bit of work done. I started on the drivers side and now have the door hung and it is al buttoned up but I ran out of battery's before finishing so the end results will have to wait. Everything is cleaned and coated before the next layer went on. I worked from the front to the back so I could get it all sprayed from the inside the rocker boxes.

Were Back!

Lets jump right back in to this one. I finished up the pass floor and A post and I am starting to fit the door, rocker and bed side. Since this will be a uni body I figure it is worth a bit more time fitting every thing up. I am about to start trimming the bed sides to fit the cab/jamb once I am happy with door fitment. I might need to try another pass side rocker as this one is not fitting very well. If that doies not work I will just section this one to fit how I feel it should. Here are a few lunch time pics. Should have more tonight at some point.

Well 9hrs in and my air compressor goes up in smoke

Now I get to run down to Lowe's and see what the warienty covers.

Nice progress!!! What was the plan for this one? Bagged? Big wheels? That sucks about your air compressor, hopefully your warranty will cover it. If they don't cover it and its the motor you might be able to have it rebuilt. I have a place local to me that rebuilds ac and dc treadmill motors that I've had real good luck with.

Yes it is the comp. motor as that is were the flash of light came from. You can look into it and see a few of the winding leads shorted together for what ever reason. It spun free and so did the pump. I have to wait untill Monday to call.

mine did the same thing it was a porter cable i believe the motor was $311 but the guy gave me a resellers discount to 265. and the only place to get the motor was from their authorized service center

Mine has a 3yr warienty and I have had it just over 2yrs now so I hope it all gets worked out quick as I am just about dead in my shop with out it. If it takes to long I may have to kick down for another one to keep going on customer projects.

Definitely a 'no short cuts' build.

The windshield pillar blend is A+.

For now it is just getting to a rust free state with the full body bolted together and back on the rolling chassie that I built for it last year.

Well the quarters are finished except for the welds around the tailgate, once it is mounted and checked then I will weld that section. I also made up small pieces to conect the newe cab to the blazer B posts in side. This section was cut large so the quarters could slide in to place and the roof section could drop down. So now that all that is done it was time to close up the void. I also finished the inner bed wall to cab conection and it is ready for a quick pass of seam sealer then bed linner will give it all a real clean look. Heading back out to start to finish up the rockers and a few misc welds on the cab. Then later this week I will work on the door bottom patches, seat mounts and it should be ready to set her back on the frame

Hey Kevin,Did you cut the old blazer 1/4s off rite on the edge of the b pillar are cut it back a little bit? I'm to this point and don't know what's the best way.I cut mine 1/2 inch back and was gonna butt weld my new 1/4 but I want to do whatever you would do.Thanks

Yes that is what I did but I left about 4" of the inner bed wall on the post so it stuck out behind the cab. Then I welded the new inner side to this with a simple step lap. The out side I left about a 1/2" as well and cut the new 1/4's right to the door jamb. Then with my trusty little cut off wheel I just cut them both at the same time about 3/16" back from the jamb. This gives a nice but joint with about a .030 gap for welding since my cut off wheels are .030 and my wire is .023 it is almost perfect with out trying. Just remember to tack a few small spots then cool it with air and keep repeating this untill you are done. You never want to make a single weld over 1/4", this will help to not warp the panel from heat.
