Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

Jkade, got any pointers as to where you get your killer deals? I am looking for an LS1 or LS2 (basically 2002 or newer) with a 4L60E or 4L80E tranny. I need the whole package, wiring harness computer and all if possible.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

There was a complete C4 Corvette on Craigs List a while back with rear end damage for $5000. I think I will end up going that route and get all my suspension/brakes/steering/engine/trans in one fat package.

I figure if I make a couple bucks off what's left after I pull everything I need off, then it's a bonus.

c4= LT1 not LS1.
i totalled up my build so far (not including paint, and other smaller things)
and i have a little under 15,000$$ in it... and i think shiftys right, i dont even really take cost into consideration when i want/need a part....so i/you could do another swap (not a frame off) for around 5-10 grand....

As a point of note, I bought an LS1 out of a TransAm WS6, aluminum block weighs much less than the LQ9 (LQ9 is beefier, steel, better for boosted setups).

LQ9 stock is rated at something like 345HP/380TQ, pretty sure the WS6 is 380HP/400TQ stock. I've seen at least one shop in TN that pulled just a nudge over 400 RWHP and 400 RWTQ out of a stock WS6 with no power add-ons at all...at the flywheel, those numbers would probably be closer to 430/430 or something.

Like I said, it's all in what you want. I'm not boosting, and I don't want to screw around with anything more than exhaust, a Z6 cam and springs to get into the 425HP/425TQ range and smoke the tires off most anything out there. You can screw around with your LQ9 and boost it later to catch up to me

Bottom line: I paid more for an assembled unit with more power and lighter weight that doesn't need any add-ons. You paid less for something you need to assemble with less power and more weight and can handle lots more add-ons.

Like I said, it's all in what you want. No single setup is perfect for everyone. You need to knowledgably sit down and decide what you want before you get it. I don't think it's wise for anybody who never deals with the GenIII setups to just go to the local junkyard and plop down $2k on something only to realize there was a much better option for their specific needs at nearly the same price.
Old man had lq9 with 243 heads, cam, ls6 intake, tune, t56 and 3:73 gears in his 69 camaro. My brother has a 01 ls1 with the same set up and 4:11 gears in his 69 camaro. The lq9 would smoke my brother's ls1 and the ls1 is bad as hell. Now a days everyone is going to lq9's becasue you can just flat out make more power with them, I have seen it in person. Me my self and I am sure there are others on here cant afford to buy a pull out ls1 and trans for 3 or 4 grand when you can piece one togther for half that. My brother also just put a lq9 and a t56 in his 99 rcsb silverado and it will blow your mind at the way it runs. You may be right and so may I. When I get mine going and you get yours I am sure we will run across each other somewhere and we will see since we only live a hour and a half apart and I go to a lot of shows in GA.

Try car-part.com find one call them and haggle with them. A lq4 will in the end probably make only 20 to 40 hp less than a lq9. Buy one put a cam in it, ls6 or ls1 intake (ls6 is good for about 20hp more than ls1), get a quality tune, headders, and have a hella motor. I guess it's really not that simple but my old man has always been a big block man and says he will never fool with them again and he has built some wicked bbc's.

I know where there is a 4l60 for $500 if interrested.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

In response to the radiator hose question........I used a radiator from a 95 chevy truck with a 4.3 v6 and the factory 5.3 liter hoses fit. The bottom hose had to be cut a few inches shorter. I do not have a/c right now, but I am adding it, so I swapped the v6 radiator for a copper radiator that fits the truck with smaller hose inlets. I will post the part number soon as well as some pictures of my swap.

I think I already stated that the LQ9 would outperform the LS1 built up! Stock for stock, out the box, the LS1 out of a WS6 is going to win over the LQ9, though

Like I said, if you're going to build up, the LQ9 is the way to go. I want balls right out of the box, and don't plan on doing more than a cam+springs from a Z06 in mine.

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.

Regardless of whether you have a LQ or LS engine, can the work be done the same? Meaning can the same people create a wiring harness, reprogram the ECU, etc?

Shifty, I'd like to go the same route as you with the T56. Time and money will tell.

Not really, he just made some brackets and mounted them on back of the heads and block.

Where did he get those valve covers? You can see in my pics that I have relocated my coil packs too. But I really like the CHEVROLET
