Pre-fab exhaust systems

How many of us have a pre-fab exhaust system on our trucks? My '72 GMC is in serious need of exhaust and I was curious what other people are running.

I can go down to the local muffler shop and have him run me a set of 2.5" duals with glasspacks for under $400, although that's non mandrel-bend.

I have been looking at this setup from Pypes Exhaust, but was wondering how good of a fit it is? http://www.pysales.com/iwwida.pvx?;P...TL?cat=X251530

Seems like something that fits 1967-87 would be kinda generic? Anyone running this setup? If not, what are you running and how do you like it?

I think it will fit your GMC pretty good. not so well on a Chevy due to the different rear suspensions.

then again I would rather go with a local custom bent set. with that you have a say in how it is run. I wouldn't be too concerned with the bends since you are going 2 1/2" unless you have a real healthy 454 or larger and will spend a lot of time at high RPMs.

Yeah this truck just has a stock 350 and is my daily driver beater for now. Was just curious how well any of these pre-fab systems fit.

I used the LMC pre bent dual exhaust and it fit just fine. Sounds good too.

I used Heartthrob back in '05. They make the kits LMC and JC Whitney sell. I just had to cut the kit. It tells you how long if I remember correctly. The kit is for a long wheel-bsed trcuk. I have a short wheel-based truck. I haven't had any issues. I got stock mufflers. Sounds fine to me...daily driver.

$400 sounds high for custom exhaust work. Mine was $200 for glasspack duels out the back. I'd shop around.

Same here.

I used the "heart-throb" as well. It's a tight squeeze with a trailing arm shortbox, but it does fit. I've had mine on my truck since 2002.

I'm thinking I'll do the same. I looked in my LMC catalog and the stock exit glasspack kit is only $179 with glasspacks included! Now I just have to go find some stock style manifolds to put on it (I hate these headers!).

I if remember right, the kit "is made for" the center dump rams horns. I'm pretty sure that is what is on my truck

I have $275 in my dual system just for pipiing, I have nearly $100 each in the magnaflow mufflers I am using so $475 sounds about right except for the glass packs, those are only $20 each....

The kit from LMC uses the ramhorns that have the angle dump, not straight down, I have a kit on one of my trucks and it was complete with everything, nice donut gaskets too. Had to have one pipe bent at a muffler shop, but for the price, I was pleased. Does come for the longbed though, had to cut it down to fit.

In AZ I couldnt get exhaust for less than 400, meinke wanted over 600,,,Went to TN got it with mufflers for 280,,,must be a metal shortage in the southwest....

When you order from LMC if you specify 4x4 you get pipes that come off your center dump (factory) manifolds.

If you specify 2wd you get pipes that come off your angle dump (factory) manifolds.

I own a long wheel base truck. The kit is made for long wheel base trucks (8 foot boxes) so I didn't have to cut a thing. The destuctions said you need to cut around a foot off of the long pipes for short wheel base trucks.

I have a 4x4, specified 4x4, and only had to fab one thing. Since it is dual exhaust and my truck came from the factory as single, I had to run to NAPA and purchase a generic exhaust hanger for the side that didn't orginally have one.

I am VERY pleased with this 'kit'. It was right around $200 to my front door. I installed it in December of 2001. In 8 years and approximately 12,000 miles I only have had to replace the mufflers once. In MN we go through a lot of mufflers. The salt and moisture eat from the outside in and the water in the exhaust attack them from the inside out so I ain't complaining about a thing.

I paid $550.00 for custom 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent from headers back, with flowmasters, h pipe, and chrome tips. That included labor to r and r lowered crossmember from early classic. So, I would question his price with glass packs, or shop around.

I have a short bed 72 GMC 4X4 with stock manifolds, Im confused as to which kit to order, you mentioned the 4X4 kit fits center dump, my manifolds are different on each side, the passenger side comes out the rear of the manifold at an angle, the drivers side comes out between the last two cylinders and goes straight down. Is that what you have? Thanks!

Those are not the stock manifolds. The stock manifold for a 72 4x4 would look like these.

Thanks! Well I guess a po must have changed them! Just my luck! Any ideas what mine may have come from? Maybe I can find an exhaust kit from that vehicle! Thanks again!

Those are exactly what I have! I bet I could order a set for a 74 and make them work! There can't be much difference in the way the exhaust runs, what could be different? Thanks alot for the identification! That helps a lot!
