Removing Hood

If I need to remove a front fender (one at a time) to replace my rockers, can I leave the hood in situ propped up on some timbe or should I remove it? If I remove it do I take the hinges off the fender or the hood off the hinges?

Thanks
Phil

I would just take the hood off. Just as easy and less chance of it getting messed up. Unnessasary ding would make me . Peace and good luck.

Re: Removing Hood

if one fender is on, you can raise the hood, unbolt the hinge from the fender you want to remove, and prop up that hinge. don't move the truck until you bolt the fender back on. i've done this without a problem, but it was for a few hours, not too long.

Re: Removing Hood

I've done this before. You can wad up a rag or old towel and put it at the back edge of the hood for it to rest on. I then put a prop up at the front of the hood and removed the bolts and set the back of the hood down on the towel.

Re: Removing Hood

Well I tore into it last night, hood is off, cowl is off, front bumper is off and passenger side fender, all ready for me to start removing the rocker at the weekend. Man they put these things together well, couldn't believe how many bolts and screws they used to attach the fender. Was helped by my new garage companions who have the 69 Camaro and 68 Impala I mentioned in my previous post. They also decided to tear into the engine to see exactly what it is so removed the valve cover on one side to get the head and block casting numbers which are as follows:

Block:
3956618....302.....69....4...Z-28 Camaro
3956618....327...68-69...2
3956618....350.....69....2 or 4

Heads:

3947041....69-70...302/350......"Right angle" casting identifier, 64cc chamber, accessory holes, good HP head

I was told by the previous owner that it was a 69 350 out of a Camaro so these seem to bear it out. Are these a reasonable block and heads?
