Unhappy Brake light stays on?

Hey fellers
My brake light on the dash stays on. How can I fix it. I crawled underneath the truck but couldn't see no leaks. It stops as good as always. It has drums all around it. I put a new master cylinder on about 5 months ago. So I don't know what is causing the light to stay on!
Any help would be a great help.

did ya check the fluid level in the master cylinder, or the wire that hooks to the prop. valve?

You may have some air in the system from the M/C replacement, but your problem should have shown up sooner than 5 months - more likely it's the proportioning valve

Has it been on since before the MC change 5 months ago, or is the light a recent thing?

Smile thanks for the help!

I have check the levels. They are o.k. The wire seems to have good connection.
If there is air in the propotion valve. How can I get it out By myself.
The light is a recent thing. How hard is it to replace the p/v.

If it is the p/v the light should go out when you unhook the wire. I would bleed the brakes again and see if the valve centers itself.

Try pushing on brake pedal hard (approx. 100 lbs ) this should reset piston in proportioning valve which is probably causing light to stay on.

Thumbs up

IF YOUR FLUID LEVEL IS GOOD, & YOUR PEDAL IS HARD & NOT SPONGEY, TRY STOMPING ON YOUR PEDAL (KINDA LIKE A PANIC STOP) & IT WILL PROBABLY RESET YOUR PROP. VALVE. LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS. JOHN

I had the same problem. Good brakes but the light stayed on. I replaced the sensor that the wire goes to with one from a parts truck and that fixed the problem. The light now comes on when I start the truck then goes out. Andrew

I had the same thing with the light. I thought there had been no fluid loss, but when I pulled the drums I found a bad wheel cylinder. Just leaked enough apparently for the light to come on.

My breaks were horrible and the only time my light came on was when my emergency break pedel slipped down.

Talking Thanks Guys It Fixed It

Well I pushed the pedal real hard and real quick.
Then unpluged the wire . Then pluged it back up. The light went out. Now it comes on when I start the truck then it goesout . Like it is supposed to do.
But as soon as I can get in the garage. I will check the wheel cylinders again. For any leaks. Once again
"THANKS FOR ALL HELP" I couldn't do with out you guys.
