Unhappy Billings tow truck drivers killed

https://www.ktvq.com/news/local-news...-interstate-90

Close to home! I don't know these fellows but we have used Hanser's towing in the past.

I hope they file murder charges against the driver that hit them.

Re: Billings tow truck drivers killed

My next door neighbor was the Owner/Operator of Mills Towing. He was recovering a vehicle on I-85 in 2016 when a driver in a brand new F-150 was admittedly distracted, veered off onto the shoulder and struck him.

SC has enacted stronger "move over" laws because of his death and other incidents on our roadways. His daughter, who was 16 at the time, was in the cab.

Re: Billings tow truck drivers killed

From the small amount of info in the linked article, sounds like the 18yr old was following the semi too close and couldn't see enough of the passing lane to see the tow trucks. When the semi slowed he options were: hit the semi, dodge into the unseen shoulder or dodge into the unseen passing lane. Harsh lesson for the 18 yr old. Don't know about murder charges but could definitely see two counts of negligent homicide plus the appropriate moving vehicle violations. Not to mention civil suits by the family members of the deceased.

OK also recently added stronger move over laws.

I can't see murder charges being brought out of what info we have. Even if it was due to negligence I'd think the charge would be manslaughter. That 18 year old didn't set out to kill anybody. You don't have to be too close to a semi box to not be able to see what's ahead. What the wrecker drivers were doing had a high potential for danger, for just this type of thing to happen.

Re: Billings tow truck drivers killed

When I was working, I always blocked at least one, usually more, for the tow operators. I didn't care how long it took them to do their work, I wanted them to be able to do it safely.

I'm trying to figure what kind of common sense puts an 18 year old driver out in a snowstorm in a pickup and trailer?

Really - it couldn't wait ?????
