Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
My buddies 69 Buick Grand Sport Convertable Ram Air 400..Probably wasn't the fastest I ever went, but I was only 16 and I didn't take my eyes off the road to look at the speedometer. That car scared the crap out of me. My daily at the time was a 75 F**d Granola.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
Look up the videos of the 1000HP+ turbo Dodge Vipers. Those are ridiculous.
Top speed or 1/4 mile? 2 wheels or 4? I rode motorcycles for years - the acceleration and top speed of most modern sport and sport touring bikes are much faster than people realize. My current daily isn't a GM product. But stock (shifter and resonator delete) with bias ply tires (6 speed manual) it runs low 12's in the 1/4 mile. I drove (when I was young and high octane leaded was still avail and cheap) a high 10 second 67 Chevelle when that was considered fast for a "Street" car...it's not really that fast anymore. I drove a friend's C7 ZO6 Corvette (automatic) down the 1/4 mile a few times. Drag radials - that was it. Deep into the 10's with no drama whatsoever. There is a big a difference between a car being fast and it feeling fast. A good friend has a 1st Gen Camaro with a high strung small block and 4 speed and pretty steep gears. It FEELS really fast. It runs 13's. He rode in my daily and was unimpressed. Until I told him to watch the speedometer. And I can attest that anything over 80mph in a 67 Chevelle with manual steering, manual drum brakes, soft front shocks (drag racing) and big and littles feels like 200mph. Just saying.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
been in some extremely fast cars my friends had, but these were mine..
top scale was 120, I hit somewhere between R and N several times after the 455 went in.. horrible 1/4mi car tho.. 137 was the last number I saw few seconds before letting up, stats claim 140-145 tops, who knows exactly? this ole' girl would peel your eyelids but just about topped out in 1320' around 116-118 in just under 12 sec.. maybe get 125 out in the open but 6800 rpm is scary for more than a few seconds..

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
It's hard to say how fast I was going. Because every time I've gone past the century mark I really wasn't looking at the speedo.
I've gone over 100 in my 68 Charger R/T. And my brothers Harley in a street race back in the day. i glanced at the speedo then and it was over 100. But I only looked for a second. I was a little busy at the time. My friend had a 79? Porsche 911 SC. And he liked to do Cocaine. Bad combination. I took a death ride in that thing. He was all amped up and he had a really fast car. I just hung on. It was scary...But it was fun. Again, I'm not sure how fast we were going but it was fast. The power poles on the side of the road just blinked by. My Corvette is pretty fast. I did a little Dukes of Hazzard in it beating a train. The tracks were on a slope and I flew through the crossing and got a little air. My Carrera is probably the fastest car I've driven. But I wouldn't know it. I rarely get it past 3rd gear and it's a 6 speed. I'm going 50 and it's still pulling.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
One thing I forgot to mention I hit 145 in that RX2, cruising, at night No such thing as a consequence right, Geezus. That was the last car I should have as a first car.
My mother had a 79 Silver Anniversary TA 403, nice flyer, but memory serves me I only hit 90, no more 100 for me. Before that she had a 73 Pontiac Luxury Lemans, brand new, small block 400. My brothers and I would later abuse that car. Amazing the abuse that took. Good memories, she lent it to my older brother and I a few times on trips to Seattle to see our dad. Nothing quick about that Pontiac 400, but we hit 110-120 often. I recall just a single car passing us on I-5, a yellow 60's Nova on a blower............But then the day after our last Seattle trip in that car, my little brother swiped the keys and totaled it 200 feet later, he was 13. My poor mother, but that's how she met the cowboy, he was a body/paint man.

Richard Petty driving experience, 153 MPH.
If we are talking top speed on the street it was in a 1968 Cobra Jet Torino.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
Had a few fun cars back in high school. My first car was 68 coronet 500 with 383/ 4 speed manual. This car was not stock. At 140 the front end felt very light, and was scary at that speed. Another car that would do 140 was my 74 Pontiac trans am SD 455 4 speed. The engine was mostly stock, just a cam and custom headers/exhaust. Handling at high speed was a lot better, but would develop a vibration above 110 or so. Back then us guys thought it was the wheels/tire balance. I had to be more careful with this car after I found out how rare it was(one of 212 made with 4speed). Fastest on 2 wheels was 147.
Fun times, but we are not young forever, wish I could have kept some of the Fun cars and trucks & motorcycles .........

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
The guy painting my truck has what I believe is a special edition type R Civic, it took him quite a while to find one. He says it's wild, a few alterations. I think he said it can go 180.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
My last drag car was a 230" cressman dragster 555 with a powerglide. In good air 7.40 at 179. Sold it 8 years ago. Building a 90 Firebird now. Going to be a bit slower. Still should run 8.90's.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
Now I recall that I rode in a '64 Nova wagon that could turn 160. I wouldn't have ridden in it at that speed. The engine ended up shredding the body from the torque. It belonged to one of my younger brothers and he used to win quite a bit of money street racing. Sometimes he'd buy rear tires on Friday night and be back in for a new pair on Saturday, winning enough money to more than pay for them.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
I got to drive a buddies 2018 ZL1 Camaro with 650 hp and 650 tq straight from GM. I only had time to drive it for a few miles that day, but hope to play with it again. All I can say is that car is an all out beast. The day he bought it he sent me a video from the cars windshield camera. 157 mph at night on the interstate west of Fort Worth.
My personal top speed was in my 69 Mustang. On the Merritt Parkway in New Haven Ct. there is a long downhill straight stretch of highway that leads into a tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel is Hamden Ct. In my slightly more stupid years I wanted to see what the top speed was in the Mustang. I started at the top of the hill and held the pedal til I popped out the other side of the tunnel. Hard to say what the actual speed was, I'd guess around 115/120. Nothing compared to todays cars potential. I let off the gas and rolled off the next exit to refuel. I happened to glance down at the rear tire and noticed a bubble the size of my fist on the sidewall of my Goodyear Eagle. A cold chill ran through me as I visualized myself bouncing from wall to wall through the tunnel I just flew through.

Top end : An old 70s Super Bee - 140 on the speedo, 383 under the hood, 2 idiots on the front seat not wearing seatbelts.
Street racer: 1962 Chevy II, Completely stripped inside and out,Holes where the chrome trim used to be, one bucket seat for the driver and a bean bag chair where the back seat used to be. .040 over 350, turbo 350 automatic with a shift kit, open fenderwell headers. At night the flames from the headers lit up the pavement. I got to ride the bean bag once....ONCE.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
Fastest I have driven was 308 KPH in my twin turbo RX7 back in the 70s. That equates to about 192 MPH. Was doing time trial on a race track in Japan when I lived there. Very different feeling going that fast and having to turn, compared to my drag strip days.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
I can't hold a candle to the numbers most of you guys are putting up. My fastest was way back in 1968 when even the quick stuff was bog slow compared to today. I was working in Barstow (SoCal desert) and got my '65 Corvette (327/365) up to the 6500 rpm redline in fourth. Felt like it could have gone a bit faster. Best I can recall it worked out to about 135 mph.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
One time in high school me and a buddy did 112mph in his 4 cylinder Dodge Neon. I wouldn’t have ever believed it would have gone that fast but it did.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
most recent was about 125 in my 93 Lexus LS 400. my competitive landlord had turned onto our blacktop, by our house after I did in his loaded/lifted Duramax 2500. I saw black smoke from his truck coming and stayed on the pedal for awhile. he did not catch me to pass.. my car is one like the 93 Lexus commercial with wine glasses on hood.. cool stuff.
as a teenager, my brothers 69 Goat ran good, a guy with a nice white Trans-Am wanted to race 1/4 mile. we mopped him about 3 times in quarter mile races. but my brother stayed on pedal for awhile after that, because he could see him finally catching us. probably 120mph or so who knows. Interesting part of that story was the next day, my brother turned onto black top and at about 20mph the front right tire blew out. had that happened the night before we probably would have/could have died. p.s. no new Hankooks were grenaded in the making of ths memory.

Re: Fastest car you've ever been in?
I have been in faster or more powerful cars, but 150 is my personal high speed. My 2015 Challenger Scat Pack (manual 6 speed) at the beginning of the "empty highway" pandemic days. It was still pulling hard and if I had enough room high 160s to mid 170s in that car is possible. The car had new Y rated (186mph) tires and I had been all over it with my own hands. That was kind of a last dance, sold the car this summer.
