47-55.1 Seal - Splash Panels to Box - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

We have fabricated new splash panels that fit between running boards and the box. Is there supposed to be a seal or gasket of some kind between the running board and the splash panel and between the splash panel and box sides? I was thinking of using Gorilla clear tape for this seal - will that work/last?

I had leftover fender welting I put on mine, it actually looks good.

Originally no but I have seen a lot of those aprons that were worn though from rubbing against the bottom of the bed sides over time.

I like Crossfire 84's use of left over fender welt. I've got a roll of double back glass sealing tape out in the garage that a guy could put down a strip of along the top and lay the fender welt on it and it would never go any place.

Anything you do to keep the squeaks down and keep parts from rubbing on each other is a good thing as long as it is presentable.

I drill and bolt them to the bottom of the bed side. 1/4 inch bolt front and back with a rubber washer in between. From factory there was nothing between and they can rub. If you go off road you don't want it bolted, they have a lot flex in the frame.

You don't have to go off road here in the PNW to get on rough roads.

Thanks for the suggestions. We do have bolts to go to the box side. No plans to go off road LOL.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
