Vent Window Gasket Photo Request - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Most of the gaskets I see, at shows and such, are often tucked into the door. I don't think that is correct. Can someone take photos of the vent window installed relative to the door showing the gasket lip orientation to the door. Both in and out. Also, a really close shot of the upper most corner area of the gasket and frame attachment point of the two frame pieces. I seem to have a tiny gap that I am sure is not supposed to be there. I do not have the window installed so maybe that area squishes some when pushed into the door channel and tighten things up. I did not notice when I riveted together, but now I am questioning myself if I allowed the tolerance of those parts to open up some when I hammered things home. First time doing these vents and so my confidence is low.

i just rebuilt mine and thought they were supposed to be on the outside
but looked through some other posts and they are tucked inside

Hank you. Humm. The waterproofing gene in me(father was a union painter) says that's going to allow penetration. But I guess the side window scraper is not perfect either.
So inside the channel on both in and outside? It just rubs me wrong. The gasket on the truck was half in and half out. Removing indicated it was original as the construction and trim was clearly factory.

they tuck inside which seems counterproductive to sealing out water...
that's why there are drain holes in the door bottoms (which in turn, get plugged and rust out the door bottoms)...it's a vicious cycle...

If it is longer on the outside, doesn't it mean it is designed to be over the door

Hence the need to be rebuilt, paid 10 bucks for it on our classified

It should be tucked in and fit snugly . Doors are not water tight to begin with hence they have drain holes at the bottom . I worked on these trucks when they were fairly new and skinned many doors . Always tucked the rubber in with a paint stick and rubber lube the flap that tucks in stops wind from going under the rubber and making noise
