I have a plan. I will go & buy a winning lotto ticket & thern after I win I will send a cab to ebfabman.

Longhornman, I have thought & contemplated the same thing for the last 4 years. the problem I see is the inner fender wells would have to be removed & replaced with a hand-made one. then the frame would also be in the way (especially after I do my 3" "Z". right now I am fearing the thought of stretching the cab. maybe I will have to try the rear wall thing like shown here.

To avoid the flopping potential you mentioned, why can't you use a slightly larger section of tubing and not only weld it to the lip for a nice finished look, but also tac it to the rear wall as a rigid brace running side-to-side?

Incoma....all my modifications are usually unseen unless you know where to look for them!!!! Just like this mod, unless you know it was there, you might never miss it!!! Also Incoma....we just bought a powder-coater. Look out brackets, wheels, braces, pulleys, etc.... Everything is on the chopping block (make that "Coating" block!)

I want to put some type of brace there anyways. I want to cut the roof off, but still have a small flat area to mount the removable hardtop back on. Earl, you really need to stop. I now how have 10 years of ideas, a 50cf cylinder of argon, and the skills of an 8 year old. This is gettin bad.

i want to mount my front and rear windows flush and have been trying to find out what it takes. i wonder if newer style windshields will work...time for measurements

Putter, I see no reason why that couldn't be done. Another thought is to use part of the piece that was removed to connect the inner and outer panels to add some support to the back panel.

I found this pic of a piece of the lower section welded back on. It gives the rear cab panel some support. Since I did this I've had the stock bench seat back in the cab and as SCOTI said, it gives about 3 inches of additional clearance

I know this might be a dumb question but how would you cut a perfectly straight line across that section.

Not a dumb question at all. I use 1/2 inch or smaller masking tape laid out where I want my cut to be then draw a line with a sharpie right along the tape edge. Then I remove the tape and use a cut off wheel to cut the line. Another way I like is to use a piece of aluminum angle as a guide and use the plasma cutter against it.

Where that lower piece would normally set against the cab, is it spot welded on, or was there some sort of adhesive to keep it from vibrating? Or does it come right off when the cut is made?

Yes its spot welded along the bottom edge. This cab is a '72 cab and the spot welds were not quite random but they were not all lined up. I wanted to save that piece but the spot welds didn't allow a nice straight cut along the bottom. Maybe this cab was made on friday about quitting time.

I don't think I took any pics when the seat was in it. Its back out now. If I can find some help, I'll put it back in and take a pic.

It most likely won't be as strong but to what degree would require some testing. I could see the back wall buckling easier in a major crash but if the hit is that hard you're likely to be hurt from other impact points first.
