Darryl's License Plate Restoration

I wanted to warn everyone about turnaround time for license plate restoring at Darryl's Plates in Pennsylvania. If Darryl does your plate(s), expect him to have them for a minimum of 6 months.

Communication with this husband and wife team is sub-par and I'm yet to see my plates, so I can't comment on his work.

Re: Darryl's License Plate Restoration

Received my plates back this week and can only imagine this guy is still in business because of the quality of his work. I've used a couple of different plate restoration shops, and Darryl's work is second to none. I am very impressed with the quality of this plate.

But, the downside is communication with his wife throughout the process. It took them 6 months to restore 1 plate and make a duplicate. I was lied to multiple times on where my plate was in the process and when I could expect it back. I was charged 2 months before they shipped it back. Just a head's up.

Can I ask a question related to the licenseplate.tv.... are those plates legal to run?

Re: Darryl's License Plate Restoration

No not at all there is no way they (DMV or Police) know they are not my originals. How would they? There is no difference its as if I had cherry plates and repainted them. I had them shipped to my mom in AZ. then she shipped them to me. nothing illegal bout this. Same plate # that is on my registration.
I won't tell if you don't

Re: Darryl's License Plate Restoration

Here in Maryland you can actually register a vintage plate with the MVA if it is a MD plate & year specific to the year vehicle it is going on and the car is normally tagged as historic. We had a 66 Impala with a set of vintage plates. You are given two registrations. One for the vintage plates, and one for the regular historic plates, which you must keep in the car at all times (ie in the trunk)

We're really lucky. There is a guy here locally that does awesome work & don't have to worry about shipping, etc....he'll even find you the plates if you don't have them

Stay away from the clownbox that runs www.cr8apl8.com. Read the reviews online about this guy, he's an absolute crook!

I know its an old thread but was wondering if the guy you were talking about is still doing the old plates? I have a couple BLazers and a panel that i will be needing plates for at some point.

Thanks
Richard

Texas is similar, except you do not have to have the historic plate. I was able to use the YOM (year of manufacture) plate, and it does not have any bearing on the use, like an antique or historic plate would. I think it looks cooler than a personalized plate, and it was only $15 + normal registration. The vehicle still has to pass our state inspection (safety only, due to age). It also worked out well that the lettering on the '74 pate is a reddish orange, just like my truck.

There are usually vendors here that sell plates at the swap meets. I was able to find a new set of truck plates still in the plastic.
