Question Was I scammed on ebay on this grill? need help

Ok i purchased the grill in the link below you can obviously see it's in an genuine gm box with the part number etc..however, the grills i received is in a sealed bag unlike whats in the photo and in a plain box no gm stickers no nothing on it. and also it isn't the same part number! the one in the ad is 15554911. The one I received in the center tab of the grill on the top says 15554912. It looks the same just different part number what gives? is this a NOS grill or not? I don't think so I think I was scammed. REALLY pissed!

Why not post pics of the one you got to compare? Regardless...it's not a bad price, even if it's an aftermarket piece.

I know, I know, it's not the point...

Re: Was I scammed on ebay on this grill? need help

You probably got ripped....you got a grill from rockauto.com
they sell them for about $30.00

if you look at the back side of the grille, real gm has 1/4" speed nuts holding the chrome trim on...the replacement has tiny tiny machine thread clips that take a 5.5 mm socket to remove (the stud is smaller than the lead in a #2 pencil)

I used the rockauto grill...but I had trouble making the lmc grill trim inserts fit and had to do a little modification where the bowtie goes in the middle.

According to the listing the seller has a 14-day money back policy.

I would say you got a better deal than what was described. the 15554912 part number is what's on my original grille in my 87. I've looked and looked for that same NOS grille and never have found it. All I can find is the 15554911. I saw this listing an passed it up because he had it listed as the 4911. If i would of known i was gonna get the 4912, i would of snatched it up quick! good score.

The part numbers seem legit.

Sometimes there is an embossed number which represents the base part (like the casting number on a cylinder head or block, or exhaust manifold). Then, after machining or updating in some way the final assembly part number increments to something else (often the next sequential number).

In plastic parts this would also be known as the "less finish" number; then the specific colors (red, blue, green, whatever) would have a separate and distinct part number incrementing up off the less finish.

Well....I forgot..the rockauto grill didn't have the square holes in the top that you press in the screw inserts. I had to use those little springy screw clips like you find holding in the speedometer bezel.

That may in fact be a real GM grille.

Re: Was I scammed on ebay on this grill? need help

hopefully someone can confirm whether it is a gm part or not...but it is not exactly the same as mine....but I will also add that rockauto uses various manufactures to supply parts.

And....I have ordered lots of parts from rockauto that are rear gm parts...some say gm mexico too.

Looks like your good, bud. I would much rather have that grille you got than my brand new one I got from GM with the 4911 part number.

Yep! I actually have two NOS grilles and neither have the the same number. I know some come with the 4 aluminum inserts and some don't, i think that makes a difference in part numbers.

Looks like you got a Smoking deal on a factory part.
Just don't try cooking on it!

Your post wasnt deleted, it was moved. That "jerk" is a staff member doing there job. I understand your frustrations over the grill issue, but don't compound your problem by calling out the staff for doing their job.

I understand the job of a moderator but the deal is that was a legitimate topic for this section it was a question about a grille for an 87 to see if it was a GM nos grille or not! It should not have been moved.

I bet the teachers loved you in school
