The side panels are all new stuff. I think they are 1/4" OSB?

I can't take credit for it, the previous owner did it. But yes, it much sturdier than the stock panels.

I see I believe I might have to do the same thing to also run 6x9s without a adapter

I really don't notice them making too much noise. The exhaust is pretty loud though, so it kind of drowns everything else out.

Did you make the rear panels? I've considered this, but wondered if there is enough room behind the panel to enclose subs enough for them to work OK, or if free-air subs are required, or how best to approach it.

No, the previous owner gets all the credit for them. I'll pull them off and get some pics and more info for you when I get a chance. It probably won't be very soon. I've got my hands full getting the top finished and back on, but hopefully it will be sooner than the 4 months it took me to put interior pics up.
