Question What did i screw up?

Rewired the hack job on my int reg alt just like in FAQ. When I went to start the truck, it acted like it was going to, but then stopped. Now nothing. Still have lights, wipers, radio etc. But no ign switch. Something odd is, when I pull out light switch I can hear a pop in the spkrs.

Re: What did i screw up?

I followed Toddtheodd's FAQ on converting my truck. I did it exactly as he showed, and mine works fine.

You might double and triple check to make sure you did it correctly.

Re: What did i screw up?

Sounds like you have created a direct short. Can't really seem picture where. Maybe the wires are shorting in the harness where the ext.reg used to be.

Re: What did i screw up?

Should the red wire going to the post on the alt have power all of the time?

Re: What did i screw up?

Check the ceramic resistor on the firewall. If you blew that, you we get no start. Not sure of what caused it, that you would have to trace your wiring.

Re: What did i screw up?

Thanks Pilot Is that a resistor or just a junction block? Also is there supposed to be a fusible link there. According to my wire diagram there should be. If it's a resistor is that a common item at a parts house?

Re: What did i screw up?

There should be a white ceramic resistor on the firewall. You can buy them at any parts store. If you have updated to HEI, I am almost positive you can just replace it with wire.

Re: What did i screw up?

Sorry I was thinking about the junction block on the inner fender. PO did change to HEI. There are some more wires up by the firewall that have been hacked too, just haven't gotten to them yet. I'll just start tracing it all out.
Thanks for your help!

Re: What did i screw up?

You should have had four wires for the old alternator. Red, white, blue, and black. The red goes to the battery, the white and blue go to the regulator, and the black is the ground that bolts to the back of the alternator. I also followed Toddtheodd's instructions, but I just used a jumper wire on the connector for the regulator instead of cutting the wires.
