HEI fitting question
I have been looking at 4X4 builds and on some builds the HEI fits and some don't. But what my question is does it matter if it is a K10 or K20 stick or auto?

My 60K20 had high valve covers and a standard points Dizzy. The valve covers hit the firewall and the distributer was close but fit. I tried to put a HEI on but the back was really tight against the firewall. I did a little massaging with a body hammer and made it work. Glad I did it!!!

Great question..... wish I could offer a definitive answer. Lacking that, I will tell you (In case you are building a database) that it fit my '72 K20 (350/350) just fine. Not a lot of extra room, but nothing hit either. I did have to remove the cap before I could install the HEI.

Yes building data base have 383 with tall valve covers (dang roller rockers). Doing most of the work by my self but not the body work. Got a complete rolling chassis just swapping everything over and getting a parts list together.

From experience
68 K10 327/4 speed not even close. Put a MSD instead and because it was slightly taller than stock I had to take cap off to install. 68 K10 suburban 327/4 speed appears to be same clearance but fresh bushings I will be putting the same MSD in soon and will report back

I put an HEI in my '70 GMC K2500 and it fit with no issues. 350/TH350 in stock location.

My experience:
1971 K10 350 4 speed HEI fit. 1971 Blazer 4x4 350 TH350 HEI fit. 1971 Blazer 4x4 350 TH350 HEI fit. (another Blazer) They were all a little close, but they all fit. All had original body mounts, so were probably sagging a bit.

Aren't there smaller cap HEI distributors? I was about to post a question concerning this and then I saw this thread. I have very little room (maybe 1/8") between my cap and firewall on my 72 K10 w/350 sb. I'm now getting some popping from my exhaust and wondered if maybe it has something to do with my #5 plug wire resting tightly against the firewall. I really haven't done any diagnostics yet to find the problem, but wanted to try a smaller cap distributor

that is more like stock size will fit no prob but will have to have separate coil.
