What box you using with crossover steering

I have the captain fab steering plate and I'm converting to crossover. So I need a 2wd box. I also need metric fittings to work with my 95 hydrobooster. So should I be grabbing a 95 c1500 box or is there a better suggestion from the group?

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

I think you need to grab a 2wd box off a 91 and older truck. V style truck (square) not C style (88-up round body). I think after 1980 fittings were metric, but not 100%. I know they went metric in the 80s just not sure when.

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

You are right - they did go metric in the 80's. Looks like any 91 and older square body is the ticket. Thanks!

Do your front leafs look flat or arched up or are they arched down?

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

If it's a stock 4wd then they are arched. Just need to see how much clearance you have for the drag link. Even with no or low lift, think there is room underneath, but been 10 years since I had mine so can't remember....

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

My leafs do have arch. I think it can be done. Might have to do a little tube bending. Will post back when its installed. Currently deciding what to do about 1/2" width difference on the springs v. Dodge pads.

Here's a link with a lot of good info. About half way down there's a chart showing specs and measurements.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/

Also found this in another thread on Pirate 4x4. Post#6

The dodge is narrower by a little bit. The dodge has a 2.5 wide spring perch and smaller leaf spring studs with a different top plate. the dodge the parch width is slightly narrower. The dodge has a shorter short side axle and tube. The dodge knuckle has the cast in steering arm up higher than the GM. Theres a light and heavy Dodge brake caliper(not sure about GM).

Nothing wrong with a Dodge D60 but it is a bit different than a GM.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/newbi...hevy-60-a.html

The Dodge D60's also use 1/2" wheel studs instead of 9/16 like a chevy D60. But the knurl size is the same and a 9/16 stud can be installed in them. (On a 91-93 Dodge D60 any way)

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

The axles I remember, but not putting one in a GM. I think you can shave one side 1/4" and use a spacer on the other side....

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

The reason for the dodge swap is people act like a gm dana 60 is made of gold and the dodge 60s are cheaper.

The Off road design bushings actually don't work on the 60-66 trucks. I think I will just have 2.25" leafs made.

Not sure if I should do a new thread - but does anyone know of a truck I could rob some 2.25" wide leafs from? This would give me the additional 1/4" clearance I need on either side. I would use a 1/4" spacer at the spring eyes to make up for the narrower leaf. Just don't know what truck in the yard to rob the leafs from that would work on my 65.

Yeah my 92 dodge diesel axle with low miles was $250. The chevy version over $1000! Also I like that the dodge one is the same width as my rear so theres another plus for me.

Re: What box you using with crossover steering

If you want to see a insane price look at the 70s ford dana 60 front those are 1500 to 2500 depending who wants it bad.But those axles are used in a lot of sas swaps and jeep guys love them.
