66 Pro Street build

Hello All,
I have been visiting this site for a year now and think I finally have enough finished on my build to start posting. I am building a 66 c10 pro street with a blown 355 small block. I just finished a 65 gmc mild prostreet for a friend of mine.
Here is a pic of the 65 gmc

Re: 66 Pro Street build

Here is the 66 project truck, I bought it off craigs list and paid a good buck for it. The truck was supposed to be very clean and from Nevada. Not the case as you will see as things progress.

Re: 66 Pro Street build

starting to build rear frame section and rear suspension before I tore the truck down. I decided to go with a triangulated 4 link on this one as it will be driven on the street most of the time

No, that is a Dutchman housing. I have used them on the last couple builds. Nice stuff

Good looking truck. What size tubing did you use for the narrowed frame?

Re: 66 Pro Street build

Here are a few more pics of the chassis all torn down on a set of stands. I I boxed the back half of the chassis with 3/16" plate for the suspension mounts. All the bars for the 4 link are 1 1/4" 6061 with stainless rod ends and urethane bushings.

Re: 66 Pro Street build

Great work! Keep looking at the sneakers and thinking about shortening my rear end and sticking with my original big tire plan. LOL never too late... haven't bought the axles yet.

Re: 66 Pro Street build

When we did the 65 we went with 29x15 I had to go for the 31x18 on mine. I have always been a big tire guy. I think they would look awesome on your truck. You do really nice work.

Re: 66 Pro Street build

The wheels are 15x14 with 4 1/2" back space. Torque thrust II. I believe my overall width after I cut the rear was 70 1/2" to outside of tires. I will have to double check that to be positive.

Re: 66 Pro Street build

I started thinking more about my exhaust system for this build and decided I wanted it to exit under the steps of the bed. I was not sure if I wanted round pipes or not. I decided to go with 4 rectangular tips under each step. open to opinions on this setup. What do you think? Here is a couple pics of the collectors I made. The whole system is stainless

Re: 66 Pro Street build

I made good progress on the chassis, and it is now a roller with the engine mounted and the transmission set in so I could make the cross member. I still have to pull the trans back out to build it, but, I want to get the engine fired and run it through the break in, I will have to change the valve springs when the break in is over so I can build the transmission then.
