1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

I just purchased a 1969 custom and it shows 4607gb blue custom cloth as the interior. It looks like the original paint on the interior matched the light blue but the door panels and armrests are dark blue. Someone has covered the seat in a color that almost matches the paint. Can anyone tell me or post a picture of what this bench seat originally looked like. It lists 4262AC custom Group and 4607GB Blue Custom cloth. The steering column is also a dark blue (not tilt), but I have no way of knowing if it was original, the dash pad is light blue about the same color as the paint. I'm just really confused on what color all this was originally.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

These are the only parts of the code you need to worry about.

Z62 Custom Comfort & Appearance Package
Is an optional mid-level trim package that included a cloth seat cover (see attachement).

607 Blue Custom Cloth Trim
Is the trim code for a custom cloth seat cover in a medium blue with darker blue vinyl trim including the door panels, the dash pad and the rubber floor mat. The interior sheet metal will be the same color as the primary exterior color (light blue) except for the area forward of the dash pad. This was painted a flat Dark Blue for glare reduction.

507 Light Blue
Is the color code for a solid paint light blue truck in 69.
If you have one of the two-tone options the code will be different.
For example a white roof would be:
537 White/ Light Blue ...521 White/507 Light Blue GM color codes

If you are truely interested in more information let me know.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

That picture of the seat helps. I have not seen anyone reproducing that. Does anyone know where I can get a reproduction or at least the fabric to have it made. here are some pics of what the inside looks like now. The codes are z62, 507, and 607. I'm pretty sure the sunvisors are original and the door panels not too sure about the column and the dash pad.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

Some pictures to clarify the scheme inside. While it is a Dark Blue (508) truck in this case the trim was the same colors as yours (about 8 or 9 different shades of blue). Unfortunately the factory Custom Cloth did not hold up well and is most often seen as having been replaced somewhere in its past.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

Door panels and arm rests are correct.

Steering column is correct below the wheel adapter. The correct dark blue wheel is very hard to find.

Dash pad is way too light and appears dyed or even painted. It should be closer to the color of the arm rests than the door panels.

The visors IIRC were med/dark blue but I need to confirm that. Pretty sure they are not correct as presented.

SMS Fabrics sells specialized auto fabrics and boardmember Truckseats does reproduction covers. In any event these will not be cheap nor quick to have made. The correct center scroll work might also be a problem.

The earlier picture was an incorrect 70 not a 69. While very close the insert is different. If you cannot find more pictures of correct 69 Custom seats (any color) let me know and I will try to dig some up. The search box is helpful once you learn how to use it. Might try ["ss tim" z62] together as a starting point.

Would a moderator please amend the title to "1969 607 blue custom cloth?" for clarity?

This is what I got back from sms. Does anyone know if this looks correct? I've never actually seen it other than the pictures posted above.

Looks like a match to me. How did you get a sample so quick? Did they email it or did you find it n a web site?

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

That sample came from email. They are mailing that sample and samples of vinyl to match as well. Seems they can match the scroll work too. May cost a little to make it happen but may be cool to have an original looking seat. Found the Dark blue repro steering wheel too. Going with dark blue carpet instead of rubber. Thanks for everyone's help.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

Found some one to make it with correct scroll and fabric for what I think is fairly reasonable price. Is $550 a reasonable price for everything... fabric, vinyl, scroll, and sewn together?

Price sounds about fair to me.
Just a note on the repop steering wheel, they really aren't very good quality. The reinforcing steel is weaker than stock so they flex and feel weak. I'm sure someone else will voice an opinion on this. I wouldn't want you to spend that kind of $$$ on something you might regret.

Thanks for the info on the wheel. Do you have any other ideas? I'm not against going wood though I want it to look fairly period correct. I don't really like the more "modern" styles of steering wheels.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

Sounds about the same as I have been hearing for custom Highlander seat covers. Did you contact member truckseats or is that a local contact? Make sure that they know about the outer top stitching on the dark blue vinyl side of the welting.
Depending on the condition of the seat foams you may ver well need to replace them as well.
At first I wasn't sure you were going to go to the effort, so I teased you with pictures of how it should be to get you really interested before you got hit with sticker shock. If it makes you feel better another member is doing three stock correct, 68 Custom, covers for his suburban.

Here are more interior pictures for you one that even shows some of the scroll work. The other though buckets has the correct vinyl colors as installed in a GMC (note the GMC specific dark blue glove box door and gauge bezel). The visors, clips and brackets should be a dark blue from what I have seen in other 69 Customs in my collection. Unfortunately none of them are a blue interior.

On the wheel. Again it should be noted the 69s were a darker blue than the later 70-72 wheels and service replacement wheels.
You could restore and paint a wheel the correct color or if you wanted, use a vette wheel.

I'm a fan of the 3-spoke wood Corvette style wheel with the blue bowtie horn button. Simple, clean and still sporty.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

I have a similar wheel to that in my 72 long bed. That is probably what I will go with. My biggest issue now is if I'm going to go with the stock light blue paint or dark blue. this is not going to be a pure restoration. It will lay frame and very little if anything mechanical will be original. I just like the original look of the interiors.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

Of the two I prefer the look of the 508 dark blue over the 507 light blue. In fact it is probably my favorite for 67-69 trucks. It is just not an easy color to live with here in the desert, much less with dogs too.
The later (70-72) 508 is a lighter shade, but the 67-69 shade continued as a fleet color 570 through 72

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

. . . .

I bought my 70's cloth seat from carsinc.com
I'm very happy with the workmanship and quality of the material.
Last year, it was around $400 sewn all together.
( I haven't installed it in my interior yet )

Here are a few original 69 cloth seats I've saved:

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

by the way Tim I removed that padded dash yesterday and it had been recovered. The original was all cracked and faded but was dark blue... I'm still not sure about the visors. If the visors had been dark blue would the little plastic pieces that are at the base of the chrome been dark too or just the visor?

Touched on that up in post 13 and have confirmed that since all dark blue. The brackets and clips will be close to the column color and the visors about like the door panels.

"The visors, clips and brackets should be a dark blue...."

Like I said there are a lot of different shades of blue in a factory blue Custom interior.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

I don't want to steel the thread but I see some scrolled door panels with a bowtie and mine doesn't have the bowtie. its a 69 with Z62 and custom cloth bench seat. (black, but just like post 17) I'm sure the door panels are original, whats the difference?

That was a production variation. Never ran it down to see if it was and early/late 69MY thing or specific assembly plants. If you have the build date and the plant it would be good a good data point to know.

Re: 1969 4607GB blue custom cloth?

If it helps my 69 was built what I would guess is late in 69 (in the 800,000's) in Baltimore. As you can see above it has the chevy emblem on the door panel.

That's strange that they are less than 40,000 apart and from the same plant and one has the bowtie and one doesn't.
