67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

I wrote down all the parts needed to switch your 69-72 truck to a 67-68 front clip. I am going to pick up some fenders and hood (anyone have any experience with their repop fenders and cowl hood?) from ECE this month and decided to make a list including all the small stuff that you would also need.
Obviously you may not need all of it so you can omit whatever it is you do not need. ECE has 20% off till the end of the month for anyone really looking to possibly do this.

Its less then 2k for all those parts. your not going to find a 68 for any cheaper then that.
Not to mention then you still have 400 bucks in a cowl hood if your going to go that route. Not to mention risk any clips being broken and such and have to be replaced.

Re: 67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

I bought my 68 longbed for $1500 with a near perfect front clip in Orange County CA. I see then once in awhile around here for under $1,500. I also see used 68 front clips every once in awhile and they are usually no more than $500. The original GM stuff will fit better in my experience. Repop body parts are never 100%, usually require some grinding, sanding and fitting ot make them work right.

I would buy everything you have listed from ECE....except re-pop sheet metal. I would find some original L and R fenders. If you are going with a cowl hood, obviously that would be aftermarket.

Re: 67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

I bought a 67 front clip for 75 bucks here, minus the core support. now, it did have some rust that needs fixing lol. but I got it just for the fender, sold the grille and rest is laying in my back yard. I would give it to ya if u were here near by. so which truck is this going on?

im just not sure why everyone hates on repop sheet metal. If it is the same thickness and stamped from the same dies, what is the downfall?

has someone had bad experiences in the past with subpar sheet metal and now wont give it a chance? we have board supporters who swear it is every bit as good as OEM and will use it on their own vehicles. I want the TRUTH!!!

The metal is great, it's just the fit that leaves a lot to be desired....

Re: 67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

one show I watched, they didn't like the EDP coating and stripped a brand-new cab then put epoxy primer. I know that epoxy is the best thing going, but I sort of figured the Electrodeposit Primer was just as good. Any thoughts ???

Re: 67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

2 grand for a new front clip! I bought my entire '67 LWB for 800 bucks and my '67 GMC SWB for 1200.....yeah, I got two entire trucks that run and drive well (with good front clips) for what you are about to pay for a just the front end sheet metal.
Truth be known, I have a near perfect OEM front clip minus the trim and hood that I would be willing to part with for way cheaper than the repop stuff you're looking at. The only issue is the shipping, but I'm sure there is a reasonable solution to that.

and if people were not buying replacement parts they would not be making them. apparently many more people are buying the parts versus buying used trucks. not to mention new bolts, clips, and what not are included which you would still need on an old truck.

Re: 67-68 front clip on to a 69-72 truck PARTS LIST

I understand where you are coming from Vegas, as do many others, but you can literally buy a truck that runs for less than what you have and have all kinds of parts that are GM leftover, so that $400 Cowl Hood could be bought with the leftover money that you make by selling your used parts. Just a suggestion, I know a lot of people buy the repop stuff because they think there isn't going to be a lot of bodywork to get them ready, every panel you find will need something or another though, GM or Repop. I would just think you could actually pocket some money by parting out a truck and getting your parts all in one. Trevor
