Re: Craftsman tool chest

Thanks Greg, someone was telling me at work that Craftsman are now being made in the US, but I haven't seen any. I was at Home Depot tonight and although not made in the US, Milwaukee has some tough looking tool chest.

Re: Craftsman tool chest

the store itself gets knocked around a lot for the chinese junk it sells, but the harbor freight tool chests are very hard to beat for the money.

go to www.garagejournal.com and do a search on some of the conversations. Note how a lot of the hard-core Snap On fanboys that wrench for a living use the HF boxes at home. This sounds boastful and it is NOT meant that way, but I have tools with names like milwaukee, miller, bridgeport, starrett, browne & sharp, mitutoyo, lincoln, & snap-on in my home shop. With that being said I also have two of the older 42" HF boxes bolted end to end for storage, and those two boxes are some of the best money I've spent on ANY tool in my shop

Re: Craftsman tool chest

There is a USA toolbox stamping company, I forgot the name ,but they vertualy make all these big box store toolboxes colbolt, dewalt, milwalkee ect,ect they are just made to each companys specs. I agree about Harbor frieght tool boxes , about 2 years ago they came out with there series 2 tool box line up they really upped there game as far as quality and depth of there tool boxes . Really go to all the big box stores in your area and pull the draws, feel the gauge of the sheet metal ,just feel the overall quality ,then hop in your truck and go to harbor frieght and compare there quality in the price range you were looking at, and also compare the add on avalibilty they offer .sheet metal gauge, depth of box, draw action and overall weight is what you want to compare .

Re: Craftsman tool chest

Craftsman tool boxes have been junk for about 20 years now.
Craftsman does not make a good tool chest.
If you want a decent cheap tool chest, I recommend the Harbor freight US General series, or maybe a Waterloo from one of the farm stores.
If you want a GOOD tool chest, I recommend Tool trucks, Craig's list and yard sales.

Re: Craftsman tool chest

I bought a brand new 3 piece set about 18 years ago. It's been pretty good to this day other than a spot weld popping on one of the larger lower drawers. Pop-rivet took care of that. Roller bearing drawers. I have no idea of the newer stuff. My other pro box is a 3 piece MAC box I bought almost 30 years ago. Systematically going through that and replacing drawer slides/roller tracks. It sees a lot more abuse though and is heavier than most cars

Re: Craftsman tool chest

Menards even sells craftsman now. I have said this before but I would recommend master force if your looking for affordable quality. For those of you that dont know how it works, it 's like this. Tool shop is menards bottom brand. Absolute junk. Perfomix is there middle brand. Still basically junk but certain performix tools could be worth it. Master force is their top brand. Masterforce is like taking a makita and painting it a different color. That's how the tool world works.

Re: Craftsman tool chest

I was looking at them the other day in lowes ,the drawer slides felt more like a friction slide than ball bearing.Went to the next box opened a drawer and all the bearings fell out on one side of drawer. Was not impressed with them at all.
