Re: Driveline angle question.

The front shaft should be inline or close to inline with the transmission. All three yokes should be phased inline with one another. If the slip joint was disassembled and reassembled one or more splines out of phase a vibration can occur. Lowering the truck decreases the angles reducing the u-joint stress. I'd suspect an imbalanced shaft and/or a yoke phasing problem.

Sorry for late response. I have no pics but will report back when I get the measurements thanks again.

So then your saying that the front shat is not a big concern and that the rear shaft joint angleS should cancel ?

Re: Driveline angle question.

You need a little angle in the ujoint to make the needles rotate in the cup to lubricate them...0 deg is not ideal..
Copied this...
U-Joint Angles - U-joints need a slight angle for proper lubrication. Without the correct angles, the needle bearings in the u-joint caps do not rotate. Those needle bearings need to rotate in order for the u-joint to operate reliably and smoothly. These u-joint angles should always be at least 1-degree to avoid wearing out the yoke bearings. U-joints fail at 30* degrees.

Re: Driveline angle question.

A very generous forum member gave me a factory AT crossmember. I used it to support the 700R4 after I cut down the rubber tail shaft support mount.
For all that helped me through this effort, you deserve a few pics.
All angles have horizontal as the reference.
We have not driven the truck yet, but I’m pretty happy with how things measured once it was bolted down.

Re: Driveline angle question.

Thanks for this info. I am building a "66 from ground up with summits frame support and tranny mount, and just need to get the angle all correct.
