Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??

i really wanted to get these blasted but after checking over them they have a lot of nicks...so i figured i wouldnt waste the time or money getting the stripped. i just used a wire wheel are the rusted areas and nicks and around the lip, and then just used 80 grit to rough up the rest. then sprayed with self etching primer, 3 coats. gonna get them painted today and hopefully get the tires either today or monday.

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??

Do you sand/media blast the entire wheel, or just the front and or the back? Will paint around the rim where the bead seats cause any issues?

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??

Duplicolor silver wheel paint looks the same and holds up great, and is readily available.

Re: Best Paint for Rally Rims??

I had mine painted with Duplicolor rim paint with Duplicolor clear over it and it ended up looking like crap after a few years. Rust started coming up from under the paint so, my suggestion would be get em powdercoated. Most shops do it pretty cheap or, for the same amount, you can buy the HotCoat gun from Eastwood for $120 I think... and a old oven and you can powdercoat everything cheap!

My 2 cents

Aloha!

Everything rusts in Hawaii after a few years. I have not had any issues with mine holding up. At $5 a can I have no problem touching them up if it becomes necessary.

Almost fifteen years ago, I had to replace a rim on my last truck, an '86 Suburban. I used Eastwood's argent silver to paint the rim- they come in black primer from GM. I drove it another 12 years and the paint was a perfect match, kept the same finish/shine as the others, and never flaked or peeled.

I'd give it two thumbs up!
