Re: New to this

new issue with the brakes. I went to start it up today and the brake pedel went to the floor again, brake light came on. The fluid is all the way up and there is no leaks. after running for about 15 minutes the pedel came back up and brakes are working again. Will try again tomorrow to see if it happens again. Anybody know what is going on?

Maybe a vacuum leak, or the vacuum unit on the master cylinder. Just a guess, but you said there wasnt any air in the lines, right?

Re: New to this

Usually if its a vacuum leak the engine will change idle when you step on the brake.

Re: New to this

I'm betting dollars to donuts that it's the booster or M/C.. I had the same issue with that set up when I had it together. I was told that it was the correct setup for the truck. My next step was to order a new booster and M/C from CPP or ECE..

Re: New to this

Jeff,
I did get a new M/C. I am inclined to think it is the booster also. Where did you get the booster? Was it a rebuild one or new. That explains the pedel going down. But what about the back locking up?

This should solve all your problems and improve your braking.

Re: New to this

I bought the booster from the local Carquest here in St. A. However, when I bought the original blazer I took the M/C and booster in and they used it as reference. (The original booster was said to be from an 84, but not positive as it was a frankenstien truck)

I was on the verge of just ordering a M/C and booster from CPP for a disk/drum set up. The issues that you are having are identical to the ones I was having with the same booster.

Re: New to this

Ok, I am on the road today. The brakes are still doing very strange things. Help, Help. It drove fine and stopped fine. I drove about 2 miles and parked. Turned it off. started it up again drove for another 2 miles parked it left it running for about 5 minutes started driving agin and the brakes started to applying themselves i worked the motor and was lifting the brake pedel up to get home. They were burning. I parked it and after about 20 miniutes the brakes freed up and the pedel is good. Now I am affraid to take it out again for fear it will lock up again.

Re: New to this

changed out the booster and master with an old one i had. brakes seem ok. they are much harder to push down but stops the truck. After i apply the brakes then take my foot off i have to put my foot under the pedel and lift it up. I think it is because it has been sitting for a few years. If it turns out ok I will buy a new set up just like it. I see just one problem it seems to be leaning to much forward. on level ground the master is not level. it dives in the front. This came off the green blazer in the beginning and i dont remember what it looked like when it was in there.

Re: New to this

does it have the extra suports from bottom of booster to the fire wall? if not than you will need to find some or fab some. they help with the flex and suport of booster assy.

Re: New to this

I probably dont need to tell you this, and it wont solve your issues... but. Dont drive it until your brake issue is solved. If those rear brakes lock up on you when you are out driving, you will switch ends and could end up on your top. Just sayin.
