Re: 85 C10 LT/6L80 Frame off build

Oh yeah I see it now haha. I read the whole build thread a few weeks ago when I started considering a 6l90 and have been going back and forth and was skimming today and reconsidering it again but not sure I want to cut it up. Beautiful build by the way

Great job on everything so far. LOL on the vette situation. I’ve known him for around 30 years now and you’re exactly right about him being picky. I’m sure it sees the inside of the garage much more than the outside, lol.

What backspacing did you select for your wheel choice? thank you

Thanks, keep in touch. I did 5” on front and rear. The rear is tight to the bedside with a 10.5” wheel.

Re: 85 C10 LT/6L80 Frame off build

Those look great. Mine’s not even running yet and I’ve almost decided I should’ve went with manifolds over the Super Comp long tubes. I had the stock truck manifolds but also looked at the Holley ones as well. I’m hoping I don’t have heat soak issues on the starter with the long tubes. Those manifolds make everything look nice and clean.

I like the manifold look, I’m all about OE look and quieter exhaust these days.

So.... What happened to drive the fan/shroud switch-a-roo?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

The last pic is the fan/shroud that Dewitts uses. It works fine as I’ve used that combo before. I wanted the shroud to cover the entire radiator and some super powerful fans in case I ever need them. I also wanted a shroud that would bolt onto the OE radiator top plate.

So you fabricated the staggered/offset shroud & moved the existing fans over? I do like the full coverage shroud better.

Re: 85 C10 LT/6L80 Frame off build

One of my favorite things on this build is the brakes. Master Power has a really killer set up for these trucks with 13” 4 piston fronts and 12” 4 piston rears. Works well with the Baer remaster.

One thing I’m super picky on is battery cables and terminals. I like them clean and simple.

Re: 85 C10 LT/6L80 Frame off build

We must think alike, as my build is pretty similar to what your doing (yours is nicer!) but I also have the American Autowire 83-87 kit on the shelf to install into my c10.

How was the wiring install? The directions look pretty good - it does seem like all the engine wiring stuff can be skipped with the LS swap - did you end up using any of those wires in the engine bay side or coil them up/cut them off?

If you have any other tips for the wiring install please let me know - it looks strait forward when its sitting in the box, but in real life is usually not so easy.

The harness is super nice, anything you don’t want to use you can unpin and save in case you need it later. The only engine stuff I used was the alternator trigger wire. I remember shortening the headlight/parking lot harness some for looks. Make sure you have the correct crimpers and it’s not bad at all. I spent about 2 weeks in the afternoon but I’m very picky about how things look and usually do things multiple times so it takes longer. Feel free to pm me if you have questions. Be glad to help.

Re: 85 C10 LT/6L80 Frame off build

I completely understand where you’re coming from on the exhaust. I’m hoping mine isn’t too loud so I stuck with 2 1/2” piping and some quiet mufflers for it. The manifolds look really nice and give you great clearance around everything, that’s for sure.
Your attention to detail is awesome on everything with this truck. I can’t imagine what the finished product is going to look like. Getting anxious to see how it all turns out.
