Power steering questions???????

the power steering is in, but it's way to soft as-in to much power assist, Jeg's has a shim kit to reduce the pump pressure for rack & pinion steering, my dad installed it in his 49 and it quit blowin' out seals, but I'm using a stock 72 power box and stock pump, so what i want to know is if which way do I need to adjust the pressure to stiffen the steering?

Re: Power steering questions???????

Its not the preasure that is the problem. Its the reaction rod in the box. There is a torsion spring in the ps box that is designed to give the road feel, if it is weak, too small, or broken, the power steering will fell very easy. I run a hydraulic winch on my Blazer an have upped the preasure from 750 psi to 1800 psi. It made no difference to the power steering feel.

Re: Power steering questions???????

try adjusting the allen screw on top. It adds more friction and makes it feel a bit stiffer
