She was probably mid 60s 5'5" long grey hair, I gave her my title and she goes up to the dash to match the VIN but mine is on the rear door panel of the crewcab. So then she notices that I only have 13 digits instead of 17. So now I'm on the hunt for an original 1974 kansas tag. . And who knows maybe putting an original round light front end back on someday in the future.
sweet for the 17$ a year plate. looking good are you gonna drop this pig?

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

Yes I plan to slam it as soon as funds permit. Another cool thing happened today, went out for lunch to a local BBQ place (duh its Kansas City) and every wall is covered in old license plates. Mostly personalized bbq related smokn, saucd, pork, etc. Make a long story short I got an original stamped 1974 ks license and its red with white letters. now just have to go back to dmv to get it registered to my truck.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

Yes Joe they gave me a free license plate with my plate of BBQ smartguy
They have tons of license plates covering there walls for decor. And I remember the lady at the dmv telling me that if I can find an original from 74 then I can reregister that for my truck. So I'm pretty stoked about that. And of course the BBQ was damn good too.

That's the same problem I have here at our pull-a-part....everything is either picked clean or the idiots break everything. So annoying!
Your truck looks cool with the lights lit at night. Are you keeping all the lights?
Also, is it now your daily driver?

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

I still have my black 07 classic swb in the above picture. Once that sells then that will free up my monthly truck payment and full coverage insurance. That money will go to fixin up SquareDually. Here are some wheel pics 235/85R16s the center caps are from keystone parts but they are all rusty..These will be for sale and hope to be replaced with 19s or maybe 22's.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

Nice build Michael, the truck is looking good and is nice to see it on the road.

On a side note, if you can, can you get the CHEVROLET emblem off the band on that red and almond Chevy for me? Mine has fallen apart from age.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

Ya I will see what I can do for ya scootin on that emblem. I hope I get to that truck before the rest of the locals destroy it.
Ever notice how close the new trucks resemble the old squares...
I met this good old boy that also owns a red crew dually with a 502 bb. It has a tv cb refrigerator 2batteries an extra fuel cell 5th wheel camper shell train horns and who knows what else all those wire are connected to. Lol enjoy

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

Michael, glad to see you got it on the road! Keep at it man, it is coming along nice. I agree with what Jonboy said, just paint it from the body line up for now. It will save you some money and it will still look good.

Re: BigRed 81 crewcab dually

I went back to pickNpull today and although it was pouring I wanted to get first dibs on a fresh truck. As I was going in a couple was walking out they already got the dash gauge bezel. Once I got back to the truck another guy had already claimed the rallies and tailights. I did get the Rear window, some interior trim, sunvisors and the rear corner speakers and brackets, its an 87 and I would like to go back and get the electric doors, I didn't have enough time or money today. I cracked the windshield while trying to remove it

something I learned a long time ago about windshields, CUT out the one you want to save and take out the one you don't it will save you a lot of heartache and busted windsheilds, nice truck for sure

Thanks- but I live in the city and the only hauling I do is 3 carseats, so I'm going to make the changes that I think will make it look not so much like a horse trailer hualin farm truck.

I totally agree with you, and actually myself and another guy were taking parts of that truck and since it was raining he was helping me razor cut the windows out, the rear glass was quick, but when we were pulling the weather stripping off the windshield I guess he pulled to hard or at the wrong angle and it cracked from the bottom passenger side corner up about 10inches.
How's that saying go? If you want something done right, do yourself lol lesson learned though.
Now if it would just stop raining so I can get the sleepcab off and window put in I would be much happier. then will be off to the tint shop.
