I've been thinking about using a brush to epoxy the underside of the cab on my 61. I don't see any reason it won't work, but I'm not a painter.

Also, I don't care if it's smooth like a sprayed finish or not, I just don't want it to start rusting again.

If any of you have done this before let me know how it turned out. Good or bad.

I've seen several times where mp&c (Robert) and the astronaut (John) have done this...so I'd say there is no problem with it...

Done it no problem but give it to coats to make sure you have good coverage as the brush marks leave thin areas spi black epoxy doesn’t have to be top coated

As others have already said, brushing is fine. I would add a couple coats of paint once it's dry. The reason is, it'll help resist stone chips and add some durability. Even a slow dry alkyd enamel like Rustoleum would be a good "brushable" coating. If you leave the epoxy to dry too long, you have to scuff it before applying paint so best opportunity to paint is as soon as it's dry.

Spoke with the company owner, Barry, of Southern Polyurethanes and he is in agreement.

Yes it can be brushed on. Follow SPI guidelines for surface prep and I believe you will not go wrong. It can be some work though unlike what they are requiring for the off the shelf brand such as POR15.

Honestly you can't lay anything over rust, or rust conversion coatings. It is a well gone over subject, some do not listen and have success and most fail.

Its all in the surface prep, the most laborious, and time consuming process.

Or a small trim roller set that is compatible with the paint. The foam type. The tufted fabric ones leave bits of tufts behind.

Used rollers to apply Rustoleum green to an old military M101 trailer. Didn't have a spray setup. Wasn't needing a shiny show quality finish. Still looks good several years later despite having to pull out several lost roller tufts.
