Engine Block ID

I put this engine in my 1970 C10. I was just looking for more information on it, because I'm curious and I wanted to order some additional parts. It's a 383 stroker, th350 tranny, a 1 piece rear main seal, aftermarket 180 cc heads, and a 600 cfm edelbrock carb. I want to put a 700r4 tranny in it and re-gear the rear end to a 4.11

Any info is appreciated!

Re: Engine Block ID

i just want some history on it if possible. the block was decked and there isnt an engine code behind the alternator. I'm more nostalgic than anything, is it possible to find any history? also, what do all the castings mean, like the big "10" GM stand for? I've seen some pictures with an 8, etc, so I'm just curious. Thanks again everyone.

Re: Engine Block ID

The casting # does not tell you if it's a 2 or 4 bolt.87 was the 1rst year for one piece rear seal,so your date code is B (Feb) 23rd 6 (96).The clock tells you time of day it was cast, there could be a # 12 ,if not then the double dot position is 12 o clock. The pointer in the middle being flat is AM,If the pointer has a dome head it is PM.There is usualy another pointer with 3 positions,A (afternoon) D (day) N (nite). That block can be flat tappet or roller cam(most commonly flat tappet)

Re: Engine Block ID

I have almost the same block, it is a 2 bolt main that I was told came out of a 1996 Tahoe. It is a Vortec roller cam engine, same as the early ZZ350 crate engines? Mine has a #7 and no holes drilled were the block casting number is, where yours has a 10 stamped into it and two holes drilled into the block.
