1985 K30 Frame off resto.

This is my new project. I have been working on this for the past 3 months, every hour that I can. The truck has lockers front and rear, stock 1975 454 bbc. This is what it looked like the day I got it minus the new wheels and tires. It had a set of 38" bald boggers.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

It took two days to go from truck to this point. I used my dads hoist, which made this job 100x easier. Especially because I did this with no help from anyone else.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

Heres some pics of the transmission out, and the motor. Before and after. Its amazing how good some chevy orange and new valve covers can make a stock 454 look. I have the other valve covers for sale if anyone's interested in them.

Heres the 32 spline sm465 I picked up to mate to my 32spline np205 for $100. I used the np208 adapter and had a 2inch spacer (i believe) to take up the space for the np205 to be bolted on.

I removed some ac and heating parts. Smooth Firewall! I wish I would have taken more pics of this.

I sand blasted the frame and painted it with chassis saver jet black. It came out ok. I got the motor and trans in also!!

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

The cab is painted dupont 99k with SPI universal Clear. This was the first time I have ever used any SPI product, and it will be the last product I'll ever switch to. This stuff is great! Ordered and shipped to my door in 2 days. I have used many other clears but this by far is my favorite. Sorry for the fog, there was still some overspray in the garage when I took the pictures.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

Finally got the bed on and the doors and fenders all painted this weekend. These aftermarket doors suck to get aligned. I spent hours on them and they are still not perfect. I also got rid of the rear sliding window and put in a tinted one piece rear glass.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

Thanks, Ill get some pics of it tonight with the new hood on not painted yet. I ordered it off ebay from some guy that makes them. It was supposed to come ready to spray just 600grit and go. Thats not the situation. Its gonna need some work before it will be painted. Ill never buy from this guy again!!

Yea I wouldn't recommend him (hoods4U) i believe unless you have experience with bondo and know how to make it look right. It was definitely not worth what I paid for it. It seems to be really thin also like I could push my finger through it.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

Here are some pictures of the truck as it sits right now. I still need to work out the hood, get a roll pan, have my front bumper painted black.
Check out those tinted tail lights. I just mixed some of the black paint I had in with the clear and shot them with 3 coats. I think they look sweeet! Alot better than anything you can buy at the auto parts store.

Re: 1985 K30 Frame off resto.

Funny thing is I didn't read that it was a K30, most are 1/2 or 3/4 tons. Mine is 1 ton also, don't see a lot of 1 tons built, most think they are just to heavy and hard on gas... They are, especially with a big block, but fun "all day".
