Edelbrock 1406 - Needle & Seat

I'm really, really sure the carb is fine.
It's fairly new, and it was running fine.
But it's started running rough.
I noticed fuel coming out at the lowest linkage and searching forums, I deduced that a debris isn't allowing the needle to seat, and so fuel keeps pumping into the bowl.
Anyway, can I just open the carb up and blow things out and not actually rebuild it?

Sure you can.
After you lift the lid the floats will drop and then you can blow out anything in the seats.
Thee are two needle/seats by the way.
Just use light air pressure.

You gotta pull the metering rods out too.

The needle and seats also have a little filter screen in them that you'll want to blow out to make sure nothing is trapped in them as well. Make sure you set the float levels to Edelbrock specs also. Edelbrock carbs also need a fuel pressure regulator set to 5.5 psi, or else fuel gets pushed past the needle and seats and floods.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I have a regulator to keep the pressure under 6. I also use that heat insulating spacer.

I'll post back about how it goes.

2nd the check float levels thought. They are often wrong out of the box.

You may want to get a new top gasket in case the existing one gets damaged during the clean out attempt. Having a spare often acts to protect the old one.

Re: Edelbrock 1406 - Needle & Seat

I pulled the top of mine about a year ago. Could not believe the amount of debris that made it past 2 fuel filters.

Cleaned it out and it was not the problem. My HEI coil was bad.

Glad however to have taken the time to do all that work though, I will be doing a thorough cleaning in the near future.
