Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

The storage was obviously not friendly, but none of us can prove the miles aren't correct. Sitting for decades is punishing!! Hopefully, it can be resurrected to it's former glory. I saw that on CL and am kicking myself for not calling!! Great Buy!!

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

Those fender flares look alot newer than '73 to me, and if its a '71 it should have a black stripe around the grill surround......,

Good score though at $2000 even if it doesn't turn out to be a 7k mile truck.

Not to hijack your thread, Speaking from experience don't make the same mistake I did by getting rid of it, especially when you have a truck a little bit different from everybody elses. Here's "the one" I should have kept. Look into the mirror.
Yes it had a big block.

I will take a shot at your issues.

The snap on bed cover is not the 1980's, my fathers 53 Chevy P/U had one when he bought it in the 1970's. Well the truck is a 1971 and was parked in 1973, so a CB and trailer brake controller would be period correct (maybe a bit early but not out of the question). Cap and wires, someone tried to make it run and after almost 40 years being parking the wires will have rotted. It was noted that the carb, intake, spark plug wires, and dist cap were change by both the original owner and the next person that tried to make it run. I have seen stuff in dry California that is that rusty after sitting in a enclosed area for less than 40 years, so the amount of rust after sitting in a moist enviroment proves nothing. Agreed I have seen cars with well over 100k miles that looked better, but that proves nothing, miles do not equal rust.

To someone else that has an issue with the interior dash paint being scratched.....it has been parked for 38 year....think someone maybe had used the inside of the truck to store stuff and scratched the paint pulling stuf in and out of the cab? Vehicles get scratched when parked too.

I believe it is very possible what the OP put out as the truth. Anyway it is a hell of a deal at 2k.

And who really in their right mind lets a new truck sit around for that long without care/and or caring to pass it on to another family member or sell it.

You would be amazed at the stuff people do, it could have easily been put in storage and forgotten about.
Ever seen the story of the 60's Ferrari racer? 1 or like 10 cars in the world, was in a cement bunker under a barn for 45 years, untouched! Family didn't even know it was there untill they cleared the land of debris. Sold for 465,000. It was ruff from sitting.
50s corvette here 2 towns up from me, guy encased it in his restaurant, bricked it up. I can't remember how long, but when he sold the building they removed it. Wasn't in that great a shape, my dad went up to see it.
There are tons of strange people out there.

Can`t blame this persons wife for not gettin rid of a loved ones
presumable PRIZED possession. Maybe she was`t a gear head.
I bet in 73 that garage was not falling down around it!! And, time
does slip away we all know before know it. Hence, a corroded relic

from my understanding there was no other family members until the wife later got remarried and had kids then when the kids got older they did not have any intrest in fixing it since they had no connection to it so here is the result. yes he did die of brain cancer i think that is why she never moved it again.she was very emotional when i pulled out with it after all that time

What a great truck and a great find. I am very jealous. Please post more picks when you get it all cleaned up. I would drive the hell out of it once you get it back on the road. You can put some serious miles on it and it will still have less then 90% of the trucks out there . Good luck.

Great find! I think it's actually a good thing that it is in less than perfect shape. Now you won't feel like you shouldn't use the truck

Lack of pedal, steering wheel, and seat wear would also support low miles.

Great Score.Pour some diesel fuel down the carb and let it work for a week.Take the plugs out and I'll bet you will get it to spin.Make sure you change the oil before you fire it up though. As much as I like the big block idea,I like the original low mileage drivetrain idea better. Good luck.

Not to be a nay-sayer, but how does this prove anything? You can write whatever you want on the title, how does the DMV verify it?

Fake!! Kidding!
Must be a state thing, I don't ever recall seeing mileage on any title I've owned.
How's it proven? The DOT (in 73') went out and wrote it down themselves?

P.S. You said earlier that the DOT was off by 15 miles.
The title you are showing states it's current numbers (if not 107, 693).

just saying

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

Very nice find. Looking at your pictures, I believe the sitting since 73 story 100% Stuff that is stored semi-sheltered like that can age kinda odd. And seeing as it wasn't being used and was still relatively new, the engine didn't have the coating of oily grime to protect it from rust.
Thanks for sharing. Whether its perfect or not, these time-capsule trucks are great to see.
