Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

On a tangent here but what's the story on these state specific vintage DAV key chain tags?

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

I remember these when I was a kid. I think you ordered it to match your tag. If you lost your keys the finder could drop them in the mail and DAV would make sure you get them back.

You are right. We had the same thing in Canada years ago and I don't know why they stopped.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Yep, I could remember when I was a kid my great grandpa having several of those on his big keyring. I wish I could find them, he probably had the one to my 67 to match the original tag he put on it when he bought it in 67.

So, is there a specific plate I need to look for to have an original plate? How do you run a plate that has an expired date stamped on it?

It varies from state to state what they issued back then and what you can use now.

Best to look up the laws in your state, or go to the dmv and ask.

Hey Bill -

So you can run YOM "FARM" tags in your neck of the woods? Down here it's a big no-no......although several folks have (are) getting away with them.

Let's see a picture of the tag on your truck.

My buddy just gave me this Sample plate from PA for my collection. Thought it was interesting that it's a 1976 bicentennial plate, but it's stamped 71 and had a 72 sticker.

So you think you we like old plates? -lol

The guy that ended up with me old '69 Shop Truck is a bit "Plate Crazy" I'd say. -lol

He buys and sells old license plates, and has hundreds of them. He has them ranging from 1919 - current. He has 1950 - 1973 Alabama plates displayed on the truck. He should really put a TAG MAN shop truck logo or something on the doors.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Special-K, I have been reading this forum since the beginning and have enjoyed seeing the trucks displaying vintage tags. I noticed the two sets of Virginia tags you have. The '71 tag is very presentable and could be run as is or you could have it restored. Either way you could register them to your truck. The 1972 tags are a bit of problem. The colors were reversed when they were restored. This year the tags would have been black with white numbers. These tags are very unique for a number of reasons. 1972 was the last year with the stamped year. These would be the last year of the black w/ white or white w/ black color and the first year to issue alpha numeric such as ABC-123 which continues to this day. In 1973 Virginia began to issue White reflective tags with blue lettering which continue to today as the basic plate with stickers issued for the month and year.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Just wanted to point out that the California Legacy Plate Program that was passed to reissue black and yellow plates (as well as yellow and black, and blue and yellow) has a requirement that 7500 prepaid reservations be submitted by the end of the year. Black and yellow currently has a little over 6000 reservations and may have a chance, the other 2 both have less than 2000 and will probably never happen.

Just wanted to point the time limit on this out to anyone considering one of these.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

I found a pair of Florida 70 Plates for me and my buddy Steve to run on our 70 trucks... his is 14W15646 and mine is 14W15647... we still need to get them registered, but they are never issued plates and are in perfect Condition.

A few weeks ago I ran across the Indiana Special Machinery Plates and thought they were really awesome so I bought the 3 sequential pates for $12... for that price I could not pass them up even if I just hang them on the wall in the shop.

Montana truck set for the K20 once the NM tags expire...I'm told that for vehicles ten years old or more it's just a one time registration fee, no annual renewal required!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here are the plates on my 55 Wagon. They are " Old timer" plates for 1955 designed to be used on 20's and 30's cars back in 55. They were never registered and have the 55 tag on them. The DMV said " since they are YOM plates for 1955, you can use them on your 1955" Added bonus, they are stamped " A-210" and the wagon is .... a 210 wagon!

.
.
.
And then I scored a set of never registered 1965 plates for my 65. I work at the local Chevy dealer and am running our current plate frames.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here's the plate on my truck, I decided to go with a farm plate on this truck for a change of pace. Finding YOM truck plates is tough enough here, you never see farm plates. I bought it as a single at a swapmeet for $15. I don't run front plates anyway.
