biglou55, in reality, the BOP big blocks would be pretty much the same as slapping a caddy engine in there. (and your engine parts would be cheaper too) The exception would be the location of the motor mount towers, and possably not being able to use the ones I used. (being that they are flat, I say it is a good starting point.) Just take a look thought my caddy engine swap page (In signiture) and see what's involved.
Use your 455's manifolds, don't even think about headers right now, that's another headache another day. THe motor mounts need to be of the engine's brand so they'll bolt up to the engine. You may need to run a fuel line to the other side, might need to move the tranny's cross member, ect.
On the tranny part though, i prefer installing the tranny in the propper location. Put the crossmember in the TH400 location, install the tranny supported with a bottle jack and block of wood, and then dangle the engine in the frame rails. Mark where you need to mark, take a few digi-pics (if able) so you can remember exactly wht part of the fire wall you may want top dimple, and then get the engine back out of there.
Having the eniter front clip off is pretty much a must. You can do it with the fenders and all on, but it'll make you hate the swap.

Oh yeah, if you do it, take lots of pics and all...some one will want to know later on...a small geo-cities site is easy to do and will help you keep the steps taken in order for when some one asks you how to do it.

might be a 390. A 63 wouldn't have the 425/472/500.

I'D GO WITH THE 455 MAN!!!

These BOP 455 were some of the best engines ever made......there is nothing wrong with using a 350 or 327.....however if you want real power and a strong response feel from your engine, I'd go with the 455. I however can't run the 455 because I'm trying to save gas and pass smog at the same time.....and after the smog test.....the smog pump is coming off!!!!

I haven't ever been one to like to swap makes of vehicles and engines, but after this thread I might have to look into it. HMMMMMM

wasn't the big block caddy before the 472 a 429? Well, at least, that's what's in my books as being the BBC before the 472. Then the 472 was eventually phased out and replaced by the 500, which was used in all caddies in 76, then after that, it went to the 425. At least, if my memory serves correctly.
