I have wanted to lift my 68 too.

I think this might be a way to go.

If I were you I wouldn't lift a 2wd truck it will just put more wear on parts and won't help much off-road if that's what you were going for.

Keep it stock height and put some 31" tires on it.

Alright then, I just don't think there is any advantages to lifting a 2wd. I won't tell you what to do though.

Swap a 4wd chassis under it...seriously. With coils all the way around there really is no safe way to do it. The aftermarket does not support it with any specialty parts for our year trucks.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

Successfully lifting a 2wd is possible, but may not be the safest to do. You end up changing steering angles that affect ride quality and safety.

You can order 2-3 inch body lift kits fairly cheep. You can also put 2-3 inch coil spring spacers on it. Don't go with the coil spring clamps as that is very unsafe.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

If you do raise it up, I suspect your driving experience would suffer.

A properly lifted 4x doesn't drive at all like a stock 2x truck, so expect yours to be even further away from 'normal' feel going down the road.

If it can't be done safely I'll sell the truck and find a nice 4x4 considering my litter girl and little boy ride with me all the time

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

doing a lift like that you are going to run into MAJOR steering issues that will be dangerous... it is like what alot of guys do with their jeeps they lift them then the steering is unpredictable and they end up crashing their truck...

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

They sell spacers for coils as most "leveling" kits for late models have spacers for the front.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

Your on the right track... sell that 2 wheel drive truck and buy a real truck! There's far less 4 wheel drive 67-72s than two wheel. So you'll accomplish standing out in the sea of dropped/bagged trucks.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

I've seen some wonky spindles used on ifs gassers. Looked like they removed the shaft out of one spindle then welded another spindle to the spindle attached to the ball joints like 8" lower.
You would be better off swapping to leafs and running an I beam in the front. The rear would need a custom panhard bar and panhard bar mount. A one piece driveshaft with a custom crossmember.
There's a couple of guys with some long travel setups that look pretty sweet.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

I found a killer deal on a 1972 Longhorn but to me a truck that long needs to be lifted not dropped. So we did a 4x4 conversion on it and gave her a 6" lift at first which i determined was to high for my tastes so we dropped it down to a 4" but if you want check out my build thread it will show whats all involved. Or let me know if you have questions.

Cheers!

The C20 Custom Campers came with like 31.7" tires stock. Factory tire size is 235/85R16 which is skinny and tall. I got a set of 265/75R16 on 7" rims and it looks better. Same height, but an inch wider.

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

I wonder if chassis tech makes a lift spindle?

Im so sick of people talking crap about lifting a 2wd. Been reading it on forums for years. To each their own

Re: How can I lift my 68 2wd c10?

I've been wanting to lift my 68 C10 as well. I think they look cool sitting up high.

I just put some 255/70/15 tires on ralley wheels which helped slightly. I might put beefier springs in and see what that does.
