Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I've never seen an early period truck that was a 3/4 ton with 6 bolt hub/wheels.
I think someone took a 3/4 ton, then put a 1/2 rear in it as well as a 1/2 ton front.
That means it would still have the numbers matching frame (as showing in the pic)

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Yes, it has the filler neck in the bedside, I hvent checked for leaf hangars yet,, I cant imagine why someone would do this kind of swap, maybe for ride quality? Thanks for your help.

JDunz any chance you can post an interior pic of the dash? Being a GMC I'm curious if the GB door is saddle color. Thanks, Pete

Out of town at the moment, but the door has been painted black, however- on the inside it is a tan color

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Hidden Highlander on EBay for sale. I would have liked to see this YG8 with 460 White/Black/White paint and the 611 Blue Highlander trim redone to original although I do like the way it is restored.

Here's a clean looking 3/4t Highlander w protecto-plate at a reasonable price (maybe the camera angle hides a lot of rust?): https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/d...563412897.html

That truck has been on Craigslist for several months. Looks like it's a standard Minnesota truck with no rockers,cab corner, supports the usual.

I agree, blue plaid with the rest of the parchment interior in the black cab would have been stunning, nice find.

That’s the first highlander I have seen in that color combo, that would have been a pretty wild looking truck. Very cool 👍🏻

I haven't seen it either. The green with orange would have been an attention getter for sure.

For sure....that almost makes it look like a special order....if that's true, I thought these were assembled with largely leftover or limited amounts of Highlander specific parts. Most likely a dealer oops that made for a interesting truck?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I bet the Orange with green plaid Highlamder has the YG6 Package and it was probably an Atlanta build where for some reason they didn't list the Highlander Package codes on the Spid. The serial number is blocked out on the spid pic so cant tell for sure where it was built. As you can see this truck has all the options that are in the YG6 Package. Promo package codes and savings over individual option costs.

A= YG6 Plaid Trim, Special Wheelcovers C10 (PA1) or
Chrome Hubcaps C20-30 (PO3), Chrome Front Bumper, Upper Bodyside Molding (belt, pickups only), Door Edge Guards and Below Eye-Line Mirrors (DG4) A $94.50 savings.

B= YG7 (includes A) Adds Turbo-Hydramatic Trans., Power Steering and Tilt. A $178.50 savings.

C= YG8 (includes A and B) Adds A/C and Tint. A $260.50 savings.

The firewall markings. Not just the fact that their there. But also where they are and what they are. I also checked my 72 St. Louis SPIDs and have several, that are highlanders, without YG codes.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Here's a beauty I've got my sights set on, just trying to convince the owner to sell! It's sitting on a dead-end dirt road, so it should be safe. I found it in Jan. of this year. Owner told me it was not for sale, but admitted he needed to do something with it. He got my number and told me he'd call if he decided to sell. I went back to check on it in April, still not ready to sell. I told him I was a serious buyer and had a deep appreciation for these trucks. I made him a generous offer on it that made him think for a few minutes, then again replied he'd call me if he ever decided to sell. The wait continues.......

It's a SWB solid black Highlander with orange plaid. It's got all the package "C" items but, like all Atlanta Highlanders I've seen, no mention of promotional package.
