68 air cleaner

I have a 68 with an in-line 6 cylinder 292. I just added a power booster master cylinder setup and I am now running into issues with the air cleaner not fitting, it hits the power booster. Has anybody else run into this issue and if so what remedy did you come up with?

Re: 68 air cleaner

I thought I had a better picture. But a previous owner of my truck cut a piece out of the cover and then welded/brazed a concave piece into the base of the air cleaner.

It doesn't go in far enough to interfere with the actual filter.

that set up will probably work ok, it just looks a little off if you get my drift. It all depends on how fussy you are. The offset filters are not that common on the open market but can be found. Keep checking parts for sale, one will come up.

Re: 68 air cleaner

Here is a pic a member posted a few years ago. It may be a 250/6. I'm not sure but that appears to be an aftermarket master/booster and as you can see it barely clears the air cleaner.

Search-- offset air cleaner assembly and check 67-72 above. The pictures will show you the set up needed to do it right. good luck.

I'm about to put that same setup on mine. I'm finishing up my disc brace conversion now. I got an 8 Inch universal booster and master cylinder.

If you notice in my picture above, I have a 3/4 booster and master on my 1/2 ton truck. The brakes work amazing, but lock up the rears in an instant.

Re: 68 air cleaner

I just ran into the same problem. I'm going to use a 6 1/2" aftermarket air cleaner until I find something better. My 10" won't work. I have room for 8" diameter but I haven't found one close to that size. Some of the oblong ones might work but they're a little pricey for me.
