volt guage

I instaled a full guage set to replace mi dummy light guage set. Following GMC paul's instuctions I get a drain and kills my battery.
1: I dont have a junction block for my ground so I grouned it to my dash
2: I conected the + wire to the genarator(red wire). Im suppose to tie it in with the red wire on voltage regulator but it seems like it's all linked togetter, this is why i connected it to the genarator. Can anyone help?

The plus wire needs to be tied in after the regulator, or it won't read regulated voltage. That probably isn't the short tho.. did you ground the correct wire?? Sounds like you may have grounded a live wire by mistake. Do you have a light tester?? Remove the ground wire, and put a test light between it, and the ground to see if it's live. Can use multi meter to test for voltage also.

What seems to be the ground on the plug, my tester lights up when my tester is grouned to my dash. Is it suposed to light up? I'm not sure if it is or not. I dont think its suposed to light up.

You just need to hook one wire to a hot with switch on only.If you use wrong wire it will move needle to the left.
