I am looking on ebay at the zillamat- dynamat knockoff. Has anyone used this brand? how many square feet will i need to do the firewall,cabfloor, and in the doors? maybe behind the gas tank? should I go with the 50mil or 80mil? thanks in advance

I used some stuff I got off ebay, called Brown Bread that works good. Did it in my Chevelle and my 72 GMC truck. It was reasonable too.

Ditto on the brown bread. It was quite a bit cheaper and someone had lab tests showing it was at least as effective, maybe better. Can't remember right now

Just found it, it's now called edead Xtreme sound deadener. Comes in 2 rolls. I did the floor and doors in my 66 Chevelle and the floor in my 72 GMC with it.

I used 50 mil FATMAT but it's probably the same as zillamat. 65 sq ft did floors, firewall, behind the tank and under the headliner. Still need to do the doors, but the 130 sq ft bulk pack was $129.00 vs $1200.00 for Dynamat and I have enough left to do a double layer on the firewall, doors and floor.

Ivw used some stuff called Peel and seal its in the roofing section at home depot looks just like everything else avaliable and i have had good results. Its pretty cheap too. comes in 6 inch x i think 15 or 20 ft rolls

I'm not sure if you're looking for quality or price. However, if you're looking for quality, go with Second Skin Audio's damplifier. I used some of that ebay stuff on my S10 blazer a while ago, but for my '70 I decided to try out some more quality stuff and what a difference. I used two layers of the Ebay stuff on my Blazer and it still didn't filter out as much noise as one layer of the Second Skin. I'm going to try out the Second Skin luxury liner next, supposed to be some awesome stuff when put on top of the damplifier.

yes. you can see it in the first pic I posted on the inside of my doors. By doing the whole inside of my burb it made such a HUGE difference, we can now run down the road and talk normal. I highly recommend it.

I just wanted to toss in my 2 cents.. Whatever brand you use make sure its butyl and rubber.. The oil based products commonly used will work but no where near as effective sound wise and is easily affected by heat. I myself used a product by Second Skin and it is very high quality and alot cheaper than Dyna. Again butyl/rubber the more rubber in the butyl the better. As any ahesive gets warm it will lesson its affectiveness against sound. There have been many tests done with many different products and this one stood up with the best and for the quality the cost is not bad. I wont use anything else. My brother is a sound system installation tech and is very anal about sound perfection, he pointed me in this direction.

Ahh yes Nova70 has used it I just noticed.. It is great stuff.

That is funny, I used the same thing. They also sell it in the window section. It is flexible flashing and costs about 1/10th the cost. Poly backed butal rubber with one sticky adhesive. A common brand name that is made right here in Denver is called Protecto Wrap. Grace also make a product in full sheets called bituthane (sp?) branded as Grace Ice and Water Shield or something like that.

The basic concept is the same, increase the mass of the sheet metal with a substance that has insulating properties. The products above have that same attribute. I used 1 roll for ~ 6 bucks to do the inside of the doors at the same time I did window rubber. I could definitely tell the difference when I slammed the door and going down the road.

Not sure if I am off topic, but just wanted to share my experience as well. Good luck!

I used eDead, it uses the same butyl as Dynamat and costs a fraction of the price. It does a great job and if needed, can be layered multiples as well. My doors shut with a thud now instead of the tinny metal sound, and the tunes really crank without rattles!

I was thinking of getting some of the padding that goes under laminate wood flooring at lowes home depot. Anyone else think that may work?

IMO fatmat blows.Best budget peel n stick ive used is RAAMmat.I highly suggest not using fatmat if you plan to keep the truck over 2 years.Just my .02
