Rack and Pinion conversion from a late model truck

I'm going to be doing a power steering conversion and was contemplating going rack and pinion. I'm wondering if anyone has used a rack and pinion form a late model truck in their 67-72?

Reason I'm considering this is because I already have a truck with the rack and pinion in it, that truck is the donor for engine and hydro boost unit I hope to use. I imagine it would be simpler to use all the components that were designed together.

Secondary question. For those running rack and pinion set ups with an LS engine, what have you found to work for headers/steering shaft combination?

I cannot remember seeing hydroboost and R&P combination.

I didn't know they had similar hydraulic pressure requirements

A 2005 Chevy Express with a gvw of 7300 or less has a rack and pinion with hydroboost. So there must be others also.

Don't most run a Mustang or Thunderbird rack and pinon for there conversions?

You may be correct. Turns out I was thinking about 2 different trucks. My donor has conventional power steering and hydro boost.

The rack and pinion was on a different truck.

Personally, I think the rack and pinion is a poor choice for a truck. A lot of work for something that wears out faster than the recirculating ball setup..

And a heck of a lot more work. Just buy an aftermarket fast ratio steering box, bolt in on with a new pump and move on down the road.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the No Limit rack and pinion kit uses a late model Chevy pickup rack- so you might look into that...

You are correct No limit does use a late model chevy truck rack with his kit ,but the rack is modified to his specs to work in conjuntion with the entire kit.

Just throwing my experience out there. Late square bodies use metric fittings, and are 3.5 turns lock to lock, direct bolt on and has the same pitman arm splines
