Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

Lucky you! I have been trying to buy one of those for my 68 LWB for years! Someone I know was supposed to sell me one along with the tire rack, but it never happened.

I have these items off of my ‘67...I built a short fleet with the rest of the truck and have them stored away

Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

Wow, that's a great deal on a hard to find part! About 20 years ago when I was collecting parts to restore my 72 K20, I knew I would need that exact fender since my original one was shot. I found a nice rust free one on ebay and paid about $150 for it and kept it stored away for about 15 years until the time I needed it. A couple of years ago when I was finally getting ready for paint, I had the fender blasted, sealed and primed and I test fitted it to the truck. I then tried to mount my spare tire and it wouldn't fit into the cutout area on the fender??? It was then that I found out (the hard way) that there is a difference between the LWB fender with the cutout and the one for a SWB. I had a LWB truck and a SWB fender. I scoured the country for a LWB cutout fender and finally found one in FL and paid $425 for it and it still needed some rust repair.

Well bought, my friend!

Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

I'd love to have a LB stepside with a fender mounted spare. Just too cool. But I'm as cheep as tiny chick though, so I'll just keep looking until the thing falls into my lap. I ain't paying big bux to have one trailered from Timbukthree or anything like that.

That's a '67, so even a tougher find. It's interesting to see the two mounting bolt slots had to be wallowed/drilled out in opposite directions, showing even factory holes didn't always line up and additional effort was required

I didn't even try to haggle with the guy on price . I paid grabbed and ran... I didn't even notice it was 67. Until you mentioned it.

Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

It’s amazing how things change. I threw 2 of those in the back of a truck to be crushed years ago because I couldn’t give them away - literally.
Nobody wanted those. I’ve often wished I had kept them and maybe see what one looked like on my dually.

Only because I have the build sheet was I able to figure out what the heck happened here. The cutout fender was original equipment on my 70 short stepper. Someone didn't like it too much, though, and attempted to modify it by filling in the cutout. Sometimes I wish I could see time-lapse photos of my truck through its 49 year history, it has always been on the road and yet it has never been restored: just constantly jury-rigged and patched together.

I'd love to come across a replacement cutout fender, 65 bucks is just an incredible deal, congrats.

Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

I guess I haven't paid much attention to the difference in a LWB vs SWB cutout fender. Mine is a SWB cutout fender and the profile is slightly different. Mine also has a hole in the cutout area for one of the spare tire rack mounting braces to go through. I picked up a rubber grommet from Classic Industries for the 60-66 stepsides that seem to work pretty well.

Re: Dont hate me deal of the month

So now what do you do with it? Your truck is a 68 which has the fender reflector and the 67 doesn't. Do you use this low priced fender and mod it to be correct for your 68 or put it up for sale to someone looking for a correct 67 fender and look further for a 68 or later fender for yours?

Not sure, I really don't care about originality. If I do put it on I'll save the original. May just be easier to get the 68 for mine. Wasn't looking to do this mod on my truck but I couldn't pass it up. I'll probably end up paying more for the tire mount than the fender, I could make one if I had the dimensions. Wouldn't be factory correct but like I said not much for originality. I build everything to the way I like it

I'll take it to the Carlisle truck nationals and throw a price on it, test the waters.
