You can either toss or sell this stuff... mine was shot inside and out. The seals were missing, there was rust on the inside, and the doors wouldn't close properly!

My dash had a little bit of rust, so I figured now would be a great time to take care of it!. I removed the old sealant, did a little sanding, and put some rustoleum paint over it.

Once the paint was dry I put some new sealant down. It's not "pretty" but no one will ever see it... well, at least not after the dash is together (y'all are seeing it now )

I then let it set up for a day and spray canned it to match the rest of the interior.

Hmmm, I forgot to take a pic of it painted... oh well

You also need to remove the passenger side air vent. They come out easy. Remove the two screws holding the arm in place. Then, open the vent, pull down on the spring loaded bar thingy? and then pull it out. Simple

I also sanded and painted the crappy areas.

You can now INSTALL SOMETHING

Lets start with passenger side kick vent cover. If you're happy with how it looks, you can skip some of my steps, but I have the kick panel speakers and I thought that it looked cheesy with the speaker going over top of the cover.

So, I got out my dremel and started trimming. I trimmed it until it fit around the speaker cover. I also noticed that it was hitting against the floor/firewall in the upper left corner, so I trimmed that down as well.

Once I got it where I wanted it the holes didn't line up with the "dimples" that the instructions say to drill out... So I made my own holes. I also sealed it up with some sealer. You don't have to do this but I didn't want "wind noise" whipping around it. I also drilled a 3rd hole and added a screw to the back of the vent, to make it stiffer.

I forgot to take a pic of it all done, you can kinda see it in the last pic... I painted it too...

Back to the engine bay!!!

The easiest part to install is the condenser and drier. They come pre-assembled as a unit

The instructions say to remove the grill on your truck. I refused to because my truck has been fully painted and there's a lot to taking a grill off of a '67-68 truck. Although it would have been EASIER, I don't think it's necessary. It might be easier to remove the grill from a 69-72? At least on 71/72 I think you can get away with just taking out the plastic insert.

On the truck itself, you need to remove the hood latch assembly from the truck. 4 bolts and it's off.

The instructions say to drill out the two dimples at the bottom of the radiator for the bottom bolts for the condenser assembly, but my holes were already there!

You need to use the bolts with rubber mounts for the bottom, the rubber part goes on the engine side.

When I went to install my condenser, I saw that the bolt holes wouldn't line up, so I drilled out the holes some, problem solved!

Reinstall your hood latch assembly putting the condenser bracket between the core support and the hood latch assembly.

Next, you need to install the lines that go through the core support.

My truck DID NOT have the hole drilled for this.

There should be a dimple in the core support, I already drilled the hole in this pic, but pretend there is a dimple in the center

*IF* your truck doesn't have the hole drilled... *AND* you refuse to remove your grill, like I did then you will need to drill the hole from the backside (engine side) which will require removing the battery box. There are 3 bolts running along the core support, 2 on the other side, and one bolt is underneath in the wheel well. The following pics show where the bolts should be.

*You can only get to the bolts on the side if the radiator is out of the truck.

On to the hole drilling! This probably wasn't the best way to do this, but because I was drilling through the backside of the core support, I also had to drill through two pieces of metal, but because my hole bit was short, I wouldn't be able to drill through both pieces without the drill hitting, I used the hole saw I had for the dash to cut out the outer pices (2 1/2").

Once that hole was drilled, I used the divet to center the 1 1/4" hole for the grommet for the A/C lines. The first hole was a little excessive, but I didn't want to buy anymore drill bits. I'm sure the strength of my core support is fine

You can now put your #8 and #6 lines through the core support. I started on the backside with the bigger one first. It takes some fenangleing but it can be done with the grill on, again, another situation where having the grill off makes this SO much easier!

The next step is to reinstall your battery tray. I cleaned and repainted mine before I installed it.

The instructions say to put the holding clips onto a bracket that comes off of the battery box, but yet again, my truck had no such part, so I mocked up the bracket they did give me and drilled a hole in my battery tray. I drilled the hole in the "sunk in" part because I didn't want a bolt under my battery that would make it not sit flush.

You can see how the clamps are supposed to go together, I'm actually holding them upside down in the pic!

Open up the clips and put it around the lines.

I interlaced the clips so they held together a little better.

Bolt the clips to the supplied bracket and then bolt the bracket to the battery tray.

*Looking towards the firewall, the #6 line needs to be on the left and the #8 line needs to be on the right*

*Leave the bracket bolts loose until you do the next step, you may need to slide the lines a little bit.*

Next, Remove the caps off of the drier and the lines.

Put the proper sized grommet onto the lines (it's kinda obvious which fits which) and apply a liberal amount of the supplied lubricant to the O-ring (the tube they give you has quite a bit and I had some extra when I was done.)

Using a wrench on EACH LINE (so you don't bend or break anything) tighten the fittings.

*NOTE: Vintage Air warns that you shouldn't remove a line once it's installed without replacing the grommet, but they don't give you any extra!

The last step in this area is to install the grommet on the core support so the lines don't rub and get cut up.

It only fits one way and opens up on both sides.

Put it on the lines first, and then push it into the core support. You can use a screwdriver to gently push it in, it actually went on fairly easy.

*Looking down, the #6 lines needs to be on the bottom and the #8 line needs to be on the top!*

Now that you've got the lines on the drier and condenser, you can tighten up the bracket lines from the step before, making sure everything is nice and snug.

You can now reinstall your radiator, radiator hoses, fan, and fan shroud.

I recommend installing the radiator, then setting the shroud in place, pushing it towards the motor, install the fan, and then push the shroud into the radiator and tighten everything down

My truck had a slight cooling problem. I have a 3 core radiator (4 core is recommended) and a flex fan, so I got a 7 blade clutch fan from Raul.Duke (THANKS MAN!), a new radiator cap, and added a radiator overflow bottle and it seems to be holding 195-200 in traffic, so I'm OK with that for now. I think next year, when I have money again I'll be going to an electric set-up.

Now would be a good time to install and tighten your alternator belt.

The size belt I used that worked well was 15540.

On to the compressor!

I screwed this part up, so bear with me

Remove the outermost bolt and the 3rd bolt away on the exhaust manifold, closest to the radiator. On my truck, I went ahead and replaced all of the gaskets on my exhaust on both sides. You also need to remove the top left bolt on the water pump.

I painted all of my brackets for the A/C compressor. If you get paint on the main A/C bracket where the A/C compressor fits in the slot, scrape it off or sand it down, it's a snug fit.


The skinny end of the bracket bolts to the exhaust manifold.

Note: all bolts to install everything in the kit is included with the kit


Install two 3/8x3/4" bolts with lock washers where the exhaust manifold bolts need to go. Install a 1 1/4" spacer on the one closest to the front of the motor and a 1/2" spacer on the one farthest from the engine.

Like the pic below shows.

Then install the mount onto the manifold.

*Don't tighten the bolts until the whole bracket assembly in installed*

Next, using the flat bracket, and put the bolt in like I have shown, use a 3/8x2" bolt with lock washer with a 1/8" spacer on the backside and bolt it to the water pump as shown. The hole on the left will be for the compressor mount, so leave it empty for the moment.

This is where I screwed up. The directions say to install the compressor so that the oil fill plug is within +/- 90 degrees from 12 O'Clock so it will be properly lubed. I rotated the compressor 90 degrees clockwise so that it would be almost at 12 O'Clock when the A/C belt was installed. This was a bad idea, , follow directions! I later found out that when I went to install my A/C hoses the hose from the Compressor to the unit in the cab is TOO SHORT if installed as shown in the pics below!!!

The A/C compressor mounts using tabs "C" and "G" (C being the front mounting tab).

SO, you want to mount the A/C compressor using the last bracket as shown with the bracket behind the front set of tabs leaving the "open hole" where Tab C is.

For the other two bolts, use two 3/8x1 1/4" bolts with lock nuts (the plastic center) to bolt the bracket to the compressor.

*Ignore the actual positioning in the pictures, it's WRONG. Rotate everything in the pic (except the compressor) 90 degrees counterclockwise, and it will be correct, the following pics are for reference only*

The last thing to do is install the 3/8x5" bolt that goes thought all 3 bracket pieces and is the pivot point for the Compressor.

You have to install the nut at the end of the bracket (have it ready) before you push the bolt all the way though. You can not get the nut in place if you push the bolt all the way through first.

Snug the 3/8" lock nut down, but not too tight that you can't rotate the A/C compressor.

You also need to install the adjuster nut for the Compressor. Using a 3/8x1" bolt, flat washer and lock washer, put it through the slotted bracket and bolt it into the bracket behind it. There is a nut welded onto the bracket behind it. Snug it up for now so that the compressor doesn't flop around.

You can now tighten down all of your bolts, don't forget to do this

Here's a quick jump to the end to show what I'm talking about with the bracket and A/C compressor, you can see that I have rotated it 90 degrees on the bracket.

If you have a non-air cab like I did, you need to cut some holes!

Vintage Air provides you with templates for the holes.

You simply tape them in place and cut away!

I did find out that using their templates, that they should be adjusted some. They need to move down and away from the dash a little bit because they are put on the curve of the dash, lesson's learned! I think that if you move it down about 1/4" and away from the dash about 1/8" that should get you into the flatter area of the cab!

I drilled a pilot hole in the center of the template to get things started easier, then used a 2 1/2" hole saw to make the hole. Pretty simple.

You can see in the pics in the previous post that I had already drilled the pilot holes.

And here's what you end up with.

Repeat for the other side
