1977 c10 6.2 L92/6l80e swap.. pics

Hey guys, thought i should contribute since i have been a lurker for a while and finally wanted to start my build thread as i also have started doing the swap into my c10. It originally had a 350 combo with the leakiest rear main seal ever to have leaked.anyways it was a gas hog and not enough power,so a few months ago i found a 2008 L92 6.2 liter engine out of a tboned escalade,1800 no accessories tho but i was pretty excited as this is my first build and im from south texas so trucks are are a big thing to us.I have always wanted a 6.0 but along came this 6.2 all aluminum engine and i couldnt say no she was for me.that was October i believe and all this time i have been reading and researching and looking at hart rods threads and dennisethe menice RIP and especially v502 thread and countless other people im sorry i cannot mention everybody but you have all motivated me to do this ls swap of my dreams.well since october i have gathered parts up the yin yang and been broke as a joke so many truck parts. But a few weeks ago i acquired a factory rebuilt 6l80e tranny for a very good price in tracy,ca and then it hit me i was ready to sell crap 350 combo and go 6.2 and 6 speed auto! So now i have combo sold and new lion heart is installed along with tranny. Just now trying to get factory tranny support bar in place and looks like all is a go. Yes I have pics guys, for what is a thread without pics!??

Alright here what im using,
Dirty dingo engine mounts for c10s of our year
Psi harness
Griffin radiator, came with efans and tranny cooler
2 magnaflow 5 inch round 14 inch case 2.5 mufflers(hate Flowmaster)
Truck intake
High mount Accessory brackets from dirty dingo

Heres where i am not sure....
HEADERS, my truck is dropped and i dont like problems someone very knowledgeable told me just order mid length seap headers on ebay, which i probaly will but as far as long tube headers what are you guys doing without frame modifications..i do not like frame cutting or c notches. I haven't thought about my rearend what should i do? This truck not race track truck this is street machine mostly cruising truck.how do i reinforce stock rearend or is it better to just buy new aftermarket?whats cheaper? I hate worrying about weak things when i could have gotten bulletproof first time around....
Any questions please away and any input is greatly needed

Hey bbbc10 thanks alot for that thread. As far as drive shafts should i buy aluminum or steel one?You would go with a locker over a posi? And gearwise what should i look into? I want a street machine with good milage I need something good for freeway and in town.I am leaving the VVT.

Re: 1977 c10 6.2 L92/6l80e swap.. pics

hey thanks bbbc10 .. thats a nice truck cammed 6.0 so sick..

.i have engine mounted now along with tranny inside engine bay by way of dirty dingo engine mounts which are spot on and I am haveing trouble with the 6L80e and finding a transmission mount for it.You see its very weird.I went to all auto parts stores and the 2 mounts they sell for this tranny wont fit onto my tranny tail end..So what am i to do does anybody have experience with this?? below are the pictures. first 2 are of the piece that came on the bottom of my 6l80e well i cant get that to mount to the tranny mounts that they sell for my tranny.I am using a stock transmission crossmember and yes i have thought that this may be my problem but i am not having issues getting tranny mount to mount onto crossmember but i cannt get the tail end of tranny to correctly mount onto the mount itself.last 2 pictures are of the tranny mounts the bigger one being the rear wheel drive version and the smaller mount being the all wheel drive version. please help...6L80E guys..

Where did you buy your engine/tranny? I saw you were in Tracy, if I can get a deal on an engine/tranny (thinking 4L80E) out there it would be worth the drive.

Actually i source drivetrain from craigslist. The engine i got in los angeles and tranny in tracy.6l80e is hard to come by at a fair price.

UPDATE.. I spoke to previous owner .Apparently the piece i have is one custom made by him and i now need the original piece that went under the tranny that fits onto the tranny mount? Does anybody know where to get this piece????

hey welcome to the build , yeah i could have solved alot time money and hassling by going 4l80e but 6l80e swap into a old school is not too common and nobody i know has one.so yeah i wanted something different with 6l80e and im just taking it a day at a time i know i was bound to encounter speed bumps. but once done i know i will be stoked and saying it was worth it.

Talking Re: 1977 c10 6.2 L92/6l80e swap.. pics

Update ---->more funny business as expected

Ok hey guys happy new year and i have some reporting to do.
First off i encountered a unexpected surprize by the 6l80e tranny i was sold well it turned out the previous owner from tracy,ca had it rebuilt with a tail end from a cadillac sts-v which had a oem rwd 6l80e tranny.well i was not told this when i bought it so i am having a bastard of a time trying to mount this tailend to my crossmember so the other afternoon i posted this issue and i called trans dapt and they said i should use part number 6559 at summit was priced 75.97 so i ordered that cross member with a 3 inch drop. Later that evening a forum member by name os scottybaccus? The one who owns Tejas steel works well he offered his help so now i am trying to wait and see if i can take care of my tranny crossmember problems. big pain in my neck this guy gave me a surprize from hell with this maguyver tranny. It will get sorted im sure scottybaccus crossmember will aliviate me of this. On other note i am now looking for new headers because the Gibson #gp139s headers didnt fit my truck so now i am looking for c10 ls swap headers from ebay like the dirty dingo owner told me.anyways about to send these headers back to summit they came out too much and hit frame very nice thick construction was impressed with the Gibson.made me ahha..well also looking for a engine wiring harness, the electrical one my original one is fried from all the jiggy rigging they did to it.also need something to hold my radiator in place, i have a griffin and i have no shroud or radiator brackets, any body have an idea of what i am talking about?..well im off to send my tcm to psiconversion so they can flash it with my ecm. 4th generation speed bumps as always hahaha got my harness in the mail. Gonna get new sending unit for new gas tank and get fuel system and new tank mounted.
Man o man can't wait to fire this 6.2 up!!!

You may not be looking for shorty headers, but I used shorty headers from a 6.2L Camaro and I only had to trim about a 1/2 on the topside of the frame on the passenger side

UPDATE: Hey guys been a while. Well most parts are installed already all i need to buy is the starter and get new spark plug wires and get fuel tank mounts and hardware related. For headers i ended up ordering c10 ls swap headers from ebay and they shipped from china and shipped for 217 but they wete spot on they were a mid length design and most importantly they slid right into position and no grinding or cutting of frame was necessary! I had a heck of a time trying to solve my tranny crossmember issue and scottybaccus owner of tejas steelworks a member on this site came through with a serious solid.I managed to take a bunch of measurements of my tranny and truck and scottybaccus is the man he made me a spot on adapter plater that allows me to utilize his crossmember for my transmission.!!! So excited cant wait to turn on my truck. Will update with pics. BIG THANKS TO SCOTTYBACCUS.

Swap is looking good, congrats. I bet the truck will move once done! That tranny crossmember looks great. What did you end up doing to mount your radiator?

hey thanks man i appreciate it
yeah i cant wait to get it running im very curious to hear what the smog exempt L92 6.2 will sound like purring at idle and wot. my dad used to have a 2007 escalade and that thing really used to zoom around quite fast i cant wait to feel a ls3 variant engine in this c10 short bed.
sometimes well alot of times i go to the garage and just stare at her and the engine bay and cant believe ls swap is reality and almost about to roar with petrol burning fury!!!

back to crossmember, yeah Scotty /Tejas steelworks is in Austin,Tx and he does nice work.He made me a custom mount plate for my maguyver ninja rig of a tranny i was sold and he did it from 2 times zones away.Paypal handled the cost of goods and shipping .I measured my truck and tail end and all kinds of measurements that i never would have thought existed if it wasnt for them being pointedd out to me to be meaured,so yeah it took a few days of measuring and double checking triple checking i gave Scotty the info and he made me my custom plate and that adapted easy to my tranny tail end and bolted right into the custom crossmember he sells.

radiator wise i just orderd it from griffin for my specific model and said ls swap and it fit perfect into my front end.The stock top support fits by way of readjusting of support buut it grabs it very tight and it doesnt let go of it and there in no movement so i told mechanic to be sure and he said all was fine.opinions appreciated

Thanks man i really am hoping it is a serious reality of it becoming a beast.

Go big or go home that is why i only considered 6.0 liters of displacement AT LEAST and looky hear what i found a 6.2 .yeah man this site motivated me ......... ls swap everything!!!!!!

One day in the future i foresee a turbo kit or magnuson sitting on top of my engine......

first things first i need to get this truck running then worry about the rest of billion details in me head..

Update..... Heres some pics.I had ordered Accel extreme 9000 spark plug wires but they came from summit with some of the ceramic boots cracked as in broken probaly from when they are packed. Ceramic is fired up clay like a dinner plate so when dropped you know what happens.yeah so i returned them to summit and got Taylor race pro 409 series 10.4 wires instead and they fit spot on and all nice heavy duty rubber. I got the new gas tank mounted i gave away my old one without taking off supports and brackets like a idiot i gave it all away and had to buy new made in china from lmctruck.oh well very mad but steaming full speed ahead.
* fuel system ;this is what i did for my swap
** www.Psiconversion.com part number (kit-1007) and this came with a wahlbro 255-iph fuel pump and corvette fuel pressure regulator, 20 ft of 6an steel braided fuel line and the whole kit Russell fuel fittings and it was 429. All is good but i have found the return line size of -6 an to be too large to fit securely on gas tank plug. Not worried although have to find something smaller in diameter to fit more snugly.

I have mufflers 2 Magnaflow #12866 These i am ready to weld on. They are basically bullet straigh through non chamber free flowing mufflers. I hope these to be aggressive sounding to say the least.i plan on dumping near rear axle i do not want outlets to be seen since originally i wanted lighting style dual outlets in front of passenger rear tire but all good guess strait back is better than a big as$$ 90 degree angle.

I got new tranny pan gasket from mr gasket for my 6l80e since i have to put back tranny valve body and TCM i got tuned from Psiconversion.com so might as well ride fresh clean new gasket to be safe.According.to oreilys computer my 6l80e only takes 6.5 qtz of oil so i got some lucas and royal purple for the job.

I measured driveshaft length that i need so gotta call driveline shop and share this along with pics of my output since i have a STS-V tail end on my 6l80e. What do yall think steel or aluminum???

My gas pedal is a electronic LS3 gm pedal i got it new from psiconversion.com part number ACC-1007.. Mass air flow sensor i got from psi as well...

...... .
