i dont remeber the actual dimensions, but its about 14' long, and 40" outside wide. basically 6" heavy I beam rails, 6x8 tube for (3) main crossmembers, legs are 4" tube, 3/8 plate "feet" bolted to floor, leveled and stringlined every direction before welding to the feet. it took almost a full day getting it "flat" and level when i built it, but it sure makes it nice to not have to compensate for the suface being "off" when i build stuff.... once again, trying to make it idiot-proof, cuz i dont need any help making stupid mistakes.

the last jig was 20'x7' overall, all made from 3x4 tube. think trailer deck 3' off the ground. it was kewl for doing complete rollers, exhaust(could roll right under it on a stool) but it was just too f'ing big, took up too much space when not being used.

the new one is set up very "universal", i plan on making bolt on parts that will hold rotors in place as needed for wb and track widths, since i do a lot of scratch built suspensions. i also made this one about 20" tall, the other one was great for doin rails, but too tall for doing everything else. this one i can sit and weld rails, or stand on the floor and weld cages. it also works great for setting bare cabs on(like the crewcab is now), makes it just right for rocker repair work, and is still low enough to hang doors on it by myself.

Re: 68 crew cab dually "shop truck" project

did a lil diggin and found a couple decent shots of the jig, 1st pic is the start of a perimeter frame chassis for a pro street 52 chevy 2dr ht

and this one you get an idea of the width, standard TCI MII front suspension

Re: 68 crew cab dually "shop truck" project

Thanks Mine will be set up on roller jacks so I can get it out of my small shop when not being used. I will have inserts in the concrete floor to shim and bolt it to and I have a good bit of lazer leveling equipment that will keep it true.

Thumbs up Re: 68 crew cab dually "shop truck" project

I thought that I was the only one that had a 67-72 crew cab until I found this web site. Your cab is very similar to what I did with my cabName: 164.jpg

this truck was built from a wrecked 02 chevy crew cab with very low miles. I started on this project back in 02 and since then i have lost pics, but i will send some current pics soon. I used the floor and firewall from the 02 cab and built it from there, chopping up 2 cabs and a burb. All of the wiring is still there from the 02 ,dash and everything. Lately I have been inspired into finishing it. I want this truck to be a daily driver .

sorry, been away from this site for a couple weeks.

anyway... yes, Race Rodz is my shop name, officially opened in may of this year, un-officially i have been doin this kinda work and painting harleys for 10+ years(i'm 30). Nov 05 i went to work for performance fab in GP, putting it nice, i thought the owner had no biz doing anything automotive related. i walked out after about 6 weeks, then i was commishioned to re-build a car that PF started.... red 57 chevy, air ride, efi 8:71 blown bigblock, 20x16/18x6 wheels..... got tired of the "thank-less" work enviornment... went back out on my own. spend most of my time doing custom sheetmetal fab, chassis work, and body/paint on "special" projects.

this truck is backburnered for a lil while longer, got a couple SEMA 08 projects taking priority at the moment. i did manage to get the motor dug out, degreased, and started puttin the "hot-rod" parts on it... stacked twin turbos will be a lil sooner than originally planned

all the doors are "hung" now, just need to get a lil time to finish the latches, then its onto the roof skin. chassis is awaiting some free time also, then onto the jig it goes...with anyluck this thing might be a roller before spring.

i also have Kris Horton workin on a rendering, rest assured it will get posted once its finalized.

Re: 68 crew cab dually "shop truck" project

customer work is killing any kind of progress........ i dunno if thats good or bad, i just know none of my stuff has been gettin touched.

only updates come in way of parts collecting,

scored a diesel TH400 with a US gear OD unit on local c/l, lets just say i picked it up for about 10% of what a really good deal would be

picked up the cummins to chevy trans adaptor

got the "bling" parts for the street rod detailed oil burner back from the polisher.

will probably order my wheels, tires, bags, and valves in the next couple weeks.... so i can atleast get the cab/chassis wrapted up

still hunting for a perfect set of step side fenders, all my other scores fell through.
