hei wiring

hey guys need a little help,going from points to hei on my 250 i6,need to know what to run for wiring and from where.
thought i had a diagram saved but can't find it ,i know this has been on the boards before.

All you need is a hot lead from the ignition to fire the HEI. Should be able to use the + lead from your stock coil.

This attached image may help. I found it here a few days back.

A "key" feature is getting the "pink" 12 gage wire directly to your new distributor. You can also completely remove the "yellow wire" going to your starter solenoid (on the starter for my '71 Cheyenne).

I believe that others have had problems using the old "+" lead to your coil, because the these leads were intentionally made "resistive" to reduce voltage to the coil (to around 7 volts or so). The new HEI needs the full 12 volts.

Yes, Orion is right that the stock coil wire will not supply full power that the HEI needs. I ran a wire from the "ignition unfused" terminal on the fuse block to the distributer. It works fine.

todd72 biglou55 right down the bottom of the hill from you in greenfield I have a set of instructions for hei conversion that i got off one of the boards it is quite detailed if you would like a copy call me at work 7751607 I have voice mail or at home 772-6660 ask for lou senior. I am glad to have another 67-72 historian < ha-ha> around.
