More Clutch Fan Questions

How far away can my clutch fan be from the radiator? I have a short water pump, and will be getting a 4WD shroud.

Thanks

Re: More Clutch Fan Questions

The fan clutch on my '71 with a 454 is 3/4 to 1 inch from the radiator. That way it fells the heat off the radiator faster and engages the fan keeping the engine cool.

Re: More Clutch Fan Questions

No need to be that close with a shroud..... the hot air from the radiator is funneled directly to the fan & clutch unit. My '72 is all OEM and the front of the clutch is 6" away from the radiator. And not that you asked, but the fan sits fully inside the shroud -- that is, the back edge of the fan blades line up with the rear of the shroud opening.
