Back From Paint !

Ok....after a reasonable unhurried 4 weeks I got my truck back from the paint shop.
Over the last 2-3 years the original (semi?) paint that was on it was getting thinner by the day and I was now able to start seeing the black primer through the thinning white inset.
The upper blue was badly faded with a little bit of peeling happening in a few spots, etc.
The truck still looked good from 20 ft away but as you got closer it was clear it was in need of paint.

So, I figured time to put paint renewal into the program.
Now that said....I personally don't the have interest, need or facility for the ultra-show car paint, methods or result in my relatively normal day to day classic driver lifestyle.
As a result I was after a reasonably nice paint job that brought the truck back into its proper value zone as high quality D/D.

I sanded out the box to some degree myself prior to paint, removed all the moldings, bumpers, etc.
The guys took most (not all) of the paint down to bare metal, particularly the white inset...which was good.
I'm fortunate that the truck was not in need of bodywork although he did find 3 small 'dings' or creases that he fixed.

Anywhoo...now comes the journey back to getting all those damn moldings put back on it with the next 2-3 weeks, then get is insured and get out there for the season and enjoy this thing!!

Well, its going to be pretty close to the way they were removed.
I have all the 'screw in' type clips that are/were still on the moldings so most will go back on with the back screws.
However, there are a couple of holes that no longer have back access. So for those I will use the 'push-in' style in a couple of places.

On the long, upper bed moldings I will use 3M (thin) tape on the center clips to stick that to the bed...except for the front and rear hole mount points.

That said, to put some of this stuff back on requires me loosening and almost completely dropping the front, inner fenders to get the access from behind.
This includes the side 'Custom 10/Deluxe' emblems, etc.
I have removed the inner door panels to allow inside/back access to the door moldings so hopefully those ones will go relatively quickly.

Most of the original moldings were in really nice, straight, bright shape so I will be re-using them. However a couple were 'dinged' a bit so those will be replaced with new ones.

Not exactly an easy operation....but hey, I'll try go put on 2 or 3 every couple of days and see how it goes....patience will be 'key' here, lol.

Yeah man. I like it.
For me the molding and trim was work but the fun part seeing it all come together

If you use 2 sided tape check out the gorilla glue double sided tape it's not quite as thick and it's a strong tape

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it..

I'm fortunate that the truck was a 1 (elderly) owner California truck that was very lightly 'used' so the body, etc on it was in very nice, solid condition when I got it...hence the minimum amount of work needed prior to paint.

I think with the bright work back on it, it should 'pop' fairly well visually....at least I'm hoping so.
I'll make sure to post up some pics when I get all that stuff back on.....plus the painter wants a few pics for his website, lol......some good marketing in that.

I was just looking at those fastener nuts....those are pretty slick and would make the re-attachment quite a bit less work for sure.
That might be the way to go for the side emblems, so I'll see if those are available at the local body shop/supplier store.
